I leased a new R1S in January 2025. Within 2 weeks of getting it home, it had a major engine failure that required a full replacement. It was out for three weeks at the service shop. Within the last two months the car had a critical engine failure on three separate occasions. Service has come to fix it and has told me that it has been resolved. This last time it happened in a busy intersection and all dirigibg services were disabled. Stuck. It was a big problem and caused major traffic delays and major safety concerns while we waited for a tow truck. This last time there was a smell of burning plastic. Any advice?

Glad you and your family are safe. Very sorry to hear about your experience. Did you receive a warning of some sort that confirmed that there was a motor failure?

I had an even worse one, you guys. I went out to my R1S, and the engine was GONE! I looked everywhere, pulled off panels, and I couldn't find my engine. I think I got shorted by Rivian.

Might want to check your oil levels. Could be a spark plug issue too, perhaps?

Change the oil, @Donald Stanfield. A successful oil change puts the engine back into its usual position every time.

Very best wishes!

Really sorry to hear you had such a terrible time with your Rivian. It’s such a huge difference from what so many of us have experienced. Rivian should have done a better job and made this right for you.

Are you sure the engine failed?
Is this parody?

what are dirigibg services???
AI really can generate some interesting posts.
Wow, tough crowd.

Engine and motor are interchangeable, especially where non-technical people are involved.

Oxford dictionary - ENGINE - a machine with moving parts that converts power into motion.

MIT School of Engineering even wrote a short discussion about this over 10 years ago.

"The Oxford English Dictionary defines “motor” as a machine that supplies motive power for a vehicle or other device with moving parts. Similarly, it tells us that an engine is a machine with moving parts that converts power into motion. “We use the words interchangeably now,” says Fuller. “But originally, they meant very different things.”
...
Today, the words are virtually synonymous. “Language evolves to take on new tasks,” she explains. “Without thinking about it, we adapt to new meanings and leave the old behind.”

Typo cops? With minimal thought effort, it should be clear that dirigibg was a typo for driving. Look at the keyboard. You've never made a typo?

If you look at OP's post history, you'll see that OP made several other posts and talked about a drive unit failure. Why pull the AI card?

Definitely a surprising amount of snark happening in this thread. So much for the amazing community.
