I got the sensors blocked error few times. No snow (this was in September/October). Reset or deep sleep fixed it. None since .43

Oh interesting. I've never had it without the sensors actually being blocked

They absolutely use a MobilEye system, but only the outputs if their Gen 1 methodology is any indicator. Some background:
I interpreted the RJ’s comments a bit differently—essentially, it sounded like an admission that the Gen1 approach wasn’t viable, indeed it's fundamentally flawed. Specifically, relying on Mobileye’s output created latency issues that made it unsuitable as the foundation for an advanced ADAS stack. With Gen2, Rivian is pivoting to a fundamentally different strategy: adopting NVIDIA’s platform (DriveOS) and the DriveWorks SDK. By doing so, they can leverage NVIDIA’s building blocks but still develop their own business logic on top of it, rather than offloading everything to a black-box solution. Using Mobileye outputs within the NVIDIA ecosystem wouldn’t just perpetuate latency problems; I think building a software stack ontop of DriveOS/Driveworks is a large component of the value prop for the Rivian/VW JV - and mobileye integration/fusion would undermine this.

I'm yet to see anything that makes me think that mobileye and the setup for RAP are integrated in any meaningful way - it just would not make that much stratigic sense. I'm still convinced they are two entirely separate ecosystems within the R1 - with the intent that some stage they can quietly shift over to the in house ADAS, and stop using mobileye entirely - and not include it as all in the gen3 R1's or R2/R3 etc.

It’s not just the highway assist. The front radar sensors are a great safety net for forward collision warning while driving on city streets. The number of times in summer/non-inclement weather it’s warned me when a homeless person crosses the street or when some shithead break checks for no reason. Wish Rivian would come up with a solution they could offer as a paid upgrade for Gen1 owners. Not for highway assist but more for a backup safety net that’s always got your back. Or maybe it’s some other type/set of sensors that are for safety. I know nothing about sensors… hopefully Rivian will account for inclement weather in their system design for R3

Welp... The most recent update activated the heated radar on Gen 2. Last night I had the chance to try it out! And it does indeed heat the radar and melt away snow!

But..... I still got the warning message eventually that said that the sensors were blocked. It did go a lot longer than it would have previously before I got the message, but it still did come up eventually So... Task failed successfully?

That’s probably a poor heat conductor so there’s only so much they can do. At least it should melt while parked.

Had another chance to test the radar heater this morning, and I think I figured it out.

It doesn't seem to proactively heat to prevent blockage. Rather it seems to be triggered by the "sensors blocked" warning. About 5 minutes after I got that warning it went away again, and I got out to find a VERY clear outline of where the radar heater is. I wish they took a more proactive approach to prevent it from getting blocked in the first place, but hey, I'm glad it works at all!

I haven't "seen" it like you have yet, but I have noticed a sharp reduction in the occurrence of this error - used to happen every other day, since the last update I think I have had it happen once.

If I were programming it, I'd activate it based on the windshield sensor+outside temperature, outside of determining that the sensors are blocked.
