While driving yesterday both screens suddenly went blank and the music stopped. Everything else worked normal. I slowed down, sped up, went through a roundabout, etc., and then the main screen showed to be rebooting. It took about a minute for both screens to return, and I kept driving normally. Once I stopped I was able to go through the screens, with each one acting like they do after a software update, with a slight delay as if it's reloading from scratch. No errors or warnings of any type. No issues at all except for the sudden cessation of both screens.
Recently turned 9,000 miles and have had the R1T since March of 2022, with nary an issue since then. It appears to just be a fluke of some sort, but wanted to see if anyone has had a similar issue. I couldn't find anything during a deep search on this site.

Happened to me the other day too and others are reporting the same issue since the last update.

I had a similar experience recently. I went to use the truck from home. Both screens were black. I did a soft reset and everything booted up as normal. That was about ten days ago, and everything has been fine since.

This occurred after the .11 update, but we had driven the truck several times after the update before the blackout occurred. Go figure.

Don’t think I have had the latest update but at least twice while driving this had occurred during my one year of ownership. It still drives well during the reboot but is alarming.

I had this happen back in March and worked with Customer Service to investigate, they used a time stamp for the event and found it to be an external hard drive error. They recommended I looked into reformatting the drive on a computer or evaluate a different one due to concerns they read on Google for the Sandisk errors.

This happened to me as well. The morning after updating to 11.02, while I was driving.

That's scary. I recently updated last week, but I made sure I did a hard reset after the car completed it's update. I look at it like having a PC. Major update/drivers, reboot right after. So far so good (knock on wood).

This happened to me later last year. Sounds like exact same thing, just an infotainment reset. Happened while driving, freaked me out, but called support and they said the infotainment system is separate from drivetrain system, so its nothing to worry about and wont affect driving the vehicle. I wasn't too concerned about and neither were they, so never went to trouble shoot the root cause or anything, since it turned out to be an isolated issue.

I hope all is well for those of you on this thread that have had the same issue. Very alarming to see your vehicle reset itself while driving it...

Last week my screens went black, except that the drivers screen still displayed the speed as white numbers on the black background, right after I got a warning from Adaptive Cruise, "Take Control Now. System fault detected."

Screen function returned in about the amount of time it would have taken for an infotainment reset, I think. All physical controls seemed to work normally through the event. Nothing felt unsafe to me.

Taking it for service in May or June about this and other issues that I consider non-urgent at this time.

Not sure how this fits into the pattern of infotainment resets reported by others. Perhaps others will find a pattern here.

Very best wishes!

Had the exact same issue about 10 days ago. Very disconcerting. Received message that adaptive cruise was unavailable until serviced. Then the phone call I was on disconnected. Both screens went blank, the everything slowly rebooted, just as it does after a soft reset. The R1T still drove and handled just fine.

This type of thing happened to us once about 5 months ago but with a difference: the driver display did not stay completely black the entire time. My recollection is that we had a no-frills display with black background showing the speed, "gear" selection, and warning/info indicators, but I may not be remembering everything.

Did your driver (not center) display remain black the entire time or were you still presented with the essential information as we were?

My understanding is that the basic info should be provided on the driver display if it stops getting updated.

Just happened with my R1S today. I was pulling into a business and the sound I was streaming from my iPhone went out. I thought I was getting a call but shortly thereafter the screen went black. I expected the car to die but it remained 100% controllable. I pulled into a parking spot and while I was taking in the situation things started back online.

Glad this first time wasn’t on the freeway!

Yes, best I can remember the driver display was not black, but the info was very limited. Left and right screen "columns" were gone, but I "think" the speed limit was still showing, not really sure.

On the plus side, I'm happy to see it's happening to others. Well, happy in a "it's not just happening to me" sense...

I should have said the main screen went black. The driver’s display still had partial functionality - I think - but when this happens for the first time it is brain overload.

I guess on a positive note the “natural” soft reboot worked. Unlike my experience in a Range Rover HSE where you would need to shut the car off and wait a bit for a cold reboot to bring the non-critical systems back online.
