Right, that happens all the time. I’m talking about a weekend (Saturday or Sunday) public new version release.

So am I. I've gotten them on Sunday night before. Usually I'm not first though and maybe that's what you're talking about.

Yeah this is where I'm confused. Its pretty common for me to get prompted to update to the new version on Sunday nights. I'm talking about the monthly software packages.

He's saying that it's uncommon for the rollout to start on a weekend, but it is common for the rollout to continue through weekends after it is released.

The day you get notified of an update in your app your R1, has no correlation to the actual first day the update is released publicly. It just happens to be the day that your VIN was on a batched rollout, or as developers may refer to as rolling deployment:

"Rolling deployment involves deploying the new version of the software in small batches and then gradually increasing the size of each batch until an entire array/fleet/organization has been updated. This gives you more control over the software deployment process because you can detect and fix issues as they come up. If there is an issue, it only affects a limited number of users instead of the whole system."

With that in mind, you may receive an update any day of the week, at any time, based upon the rolling deployment that contains your VIN.

If you were to do this, ideally this would be a server side feature flag where the code still exists and you turn it/off on the server and it doesn't require a release.

I think the release strategy is to begin first VINs on Tuesdays. So I would expect Tuesday as the first batch.

I would hope so - would seem silly to take this out of the codebase then put it back in. You would think they would turn it on sooner tho if it was a server side feature flag.

I'm pretty sure last year they just hard coded it by date and maybe they'll just leave it a knob forever now who knows.

Yeah, it promptly went away on 11/1/22 I think. Could have been coded to just become available automatically on 10/1. Or left alone.
