It's not a hard limit - just depends on whatever tech the factory line is employing. Example- they could employ a system like this for high volume and have a separate specialty booth/line for other color choices. I don't know what the physical limitations are on Rivian's production lines.

I got a order window of Dec - Feb a couple of weeks ago. Reservation placed first day, and R1S vin 34**. 2 days ago that moved it up to 2 - 4 weeks from now. Borealis/Coast Cloud.

Reservation in March 2026 and also Dec-Feb. Planning to wait until ~summer 2027 for MY28 (twins get licences - and dad's old Volvo).

This made me laugh - when I took my twins (girls) for their driving tests I told them only one had to pass and I was out of the Uber business. Thankfully they both passed. I'm sure you've developed your own methodology to solve the "who gets to..." issue, but this is what I did:

As soon as the girls were old enough to sit in the front seat I got REALLY annoyed with the "I cried shotgun first" whining. I told them they couldn't sit in front seat until they developed a way to decide who got to sit up front without any fussing - I was pleased that they did. Lily (older by 4 minutes) sat up front on odd days and Zoe got the even days. They continued that "rule" as they started driving themselves to school and it just worked. Occasionally there was some grumbling by Zoe because Lily got two days in a row (October 31 and November 1) but I didn't have to listen to it.

Aren't you the guy who put a reservation in mid June, saying he expected an order invite within a week?

Yes! And as I said on the other thread before it got shut down, I am showing aug-sept order date. My little experiment indicated that if you reserve in mid June (or now) you will be able to order 6-8 weeks later if you take the launch edition. I think that goes under the heading of I was "precisely wrong but directionally correct."
