I think the bummer here is some folks configured standard dual and all Rivian had said to date was there was a horsepower drop from the performance. There was no hint you’d be left out of software features besides Sport drive mode.
They didn't lie, they just didn't tell the whole story. Once again Rivian's lack of communication.

The software release notes say nothing about dual motor not getting gauges. Not to mention the data contained in the gauges is pretty basic stuff that I would expect the vehicle to show no matter the spec. Either way they should tell people upfront to expect more differences as that may impact the spec they purchase.

Sure it sucks, but additional features/capabilities are always used to justify higher price points/margins. Quad with its bespoke drive modes, Dual Performance with some of those, and a similar software suite, and now Dual Standard with basic drive modes (still capable) and obviously scaled back soft features.

All vehicles were at least streamlined with the same heated/cooled seats, etc. but we were notified/warned that past April of this year, certain things would become more a la cart and given the hardware is the same for the most part between the R1 series, software was going to become the big differentiating factor. The big question is, what is baked into the price and set to be standard for each drive train, and what will be part of the ARR model they implement?

That seems to be the case here. Sadly I didn’t know they said that back in April and didn’t see anything on the website/store when I selected my vehicle. The lack of communication and transparency is disappointing for such an expensive vehicle.

That is interesting. Wonder why it is different for dual motor.

Driving around today though with the update, there really should be no reason the gauges are not on every vehicle.

In Conserve mode, I have yet to see the rear axle be used.

This is what I feared a few months ago when I was looking through the details of the dual. They were only going to add additional drive modes and 'performance' features if you pony up for $5k for the performance. It at least makes the $5k more worth it. I switched to Quad after that. But, I don't want to get my vehicle until late next summer anyway. So, who knows what the situation will be like then.

The standard dual motor truck first says swipe for gauges. When you swipe the message disappears and then nothing happens.

So kind of odd that it shows a swipe message if you don’t get them.
I agree completely! But on the plus side I do not have to check with support for a “faulty “ message.

They did say quad and performance dual have it. They have to do something to make that 5k dual performance upgrade more desirable.

I’m ok with that….
I see you're point but I don't think Rivian is marketing performance duel as the better offroad vehicle are they? I guess at some point you just get more toys with the more premium model but seems like a weird choice.

On the quad motor (the only config with conserve mode) the rear motors are disengaged by a magnetic clutch disconnect. You cannot use rear motors in conserve mode

Hopefully they walk this back, this doesn’t need to be (nor should it be) a differentiator between DM and DM performance. As others have said, the DM is still a 70k+ vehicle and it looks like the software is already baked…
