Steering Wheel Finish Peeling

The finish on the lower spokes of my R1T steering wheel are starting to peel. My R1T is a year and a half old and has 10,000 miles on it. The finish in this area of the steering wheel is not very dureable.

Have others experienced this issue and what have you done about it?

I don't see any way to fix this and am planning to order a carbon fiber steering wheel trim cover.

I think there was another instance of this, but that user had a wedding ring that was scraping it off?

I do wear a wedding band, but the same area is peeling on the right side and I do not wear any rings on my right hand.

I don't wear wedding band and i have the peelings on both sides of mine. SC said they can order a replacement steering. I told them not to worry; i don't want my vehicle just hanging out with them for weeks.

If you have a slight nibble when at speed, put in a service ticket. One of the fixes for the high speed vibration is a new heavier steering wheel.

Mine started peeling around 4000 miles. It’s 2024 RIS has 7000 miles on it now.
I did finally open tkts for few issues like leaning to right, pulling to right, rattles, panel adjustments, wind noise, water in rear lamp and 7500 mile service.

I was able to get appt in 2 weeks at Madison MI SC. I did get quite a few calls from rivian with conflicting information on all issues. I am just going to drop the car and let them fix all. I do like driving R1S.

This happened on my Raptor. Warranty it or replace the wheel are the only real options.

Let the wife go if he is not happy with the Rivian, or the Rivian if he is really really unhappy ?

I'm not looking for someone here on Rivian Forums to resolve my issue. Just wanted to see if others have the same issue and what they may be doing about it. I don't intend to contact Rivian about this very minor issue. If Rivian were to replace my lower steering wheel cover, it would be with the same OEM piece which would probably not last any longer. I will most likely replace that piece with the aftermarket carbon fiber cover.

It appears that there may be early signs of wear, although this could be attributed to frequent handling of that area. The experience you are encountering is likely to be common among all rubberized coated components, of which there are many in the R1.

I have the same peeling in the same spot as the original post. Mine happens to be at the SC now. They're going to try to replace under warranty... but if not, my charge is around $220 somehow.

They replaced that part for me under warranty for the same concern. The new part was chipped(probably got chipped while it was swapped) also but it was so small that I just left it....

At $220, I think I'll opt for the aftermarket carbon fiber cover at $32. It not only looks better, but it will probably outlast the truck.
