I reached out to my guide last week to ask about the timeline for getting my powered tonneau fixed since we are well within the window of mid-summer that Rivian had said replacements would be available. He told me to reach out to service, so I did. When I called them today, they told me to expect to receive a manual cover in the mail and to schedule a service appointment for the installation when it arrives. The service person was very careful to make it seem as though the broad plan for R1T owners with malfunctioning POWERED tonneaus was to replace with MANUAL ones, and not in a way that made it seem like a temporary fix. This is a direct contradiction of all the messaging from this spring, most obviously the video RJ did in May with the new version of the powered tonneau and the claim that existing owners would be receiving replacements before new customers could configure. Has anyone else heard this?

Update:
Fully resolved. My guide says the service rep was misinformed and we are in fact getting a powered fix.

I would take what they say at the service centers with a grain of salt. They seem to be getting info at the same time the rest of us do in many cases. Until you hear it officially from corporate I would not believe it.

Possible to do it. I will be massaging mine back into working order if it ever stops if that's the case though.

They can give me a refund if mine stops working and that's the fix. That's not what I paid for. Luckily mine works fine but they can keep that plastic crap.

They'd have to refund the price difference between a power and manual tonneau, or give you the option for a full refund.

with the flimsiness of the manual cover to date, I'll be curious to see how sturdy the power one v2 will be....

Just got a call from my guide who assured me the replacement for the powered cover is a powered cover. Doesn’t have a timeline, but he seemed confused by what the service guy had said to me. So hopefully crisis averted.

lol I heard when you press the button its just a Rivian intern that comes to your truck and removes the panels and stores them in your gear tunnel now. Human powered tonneau. that's what RJ told me

It seems Rivian has given their Guides and SC people full permission to run their mouths on every topic under the sun. The amount of disinformation that comes from Rivian employees every day is mind numbing!

Lots of Rivian water cooler talk makes it way to customers that shouldn't. Hopefully that new coms person can get that ship in order. They have alot of big dollar people for such a shoddy customer experience. Maybe they need to spend more time on front lines or something....

Although, it wouldn’t be a bad gesture for Rivian to offer the manual cover free of charge to all customers waiting for a PTC fix.
