You quoted me and only me, and said my numbers are wrong and specifically said the "The lower rates are correct as per the Tesla app for non-Teslas."

That is not true.

Here is an image directly from the Tesla website which backs up my numbers.

For what I've seen recently in CA, the Tesla non member rates are still cheaper than EVgo and EA

Recent real life example:
EA in Tulare $0.64 with membership
Tesla SC in Visalia $0.50 without membership

Which is irrelevant - you claimed my numbers were wrong yet you post a screen shot of some charger in a different state. Then you try to switch this to a discussion about membership vs. non-membership price, which is again irrelevant.

Here is the point I made above:
I see $0.32 - $0.62 in Washington, with most above $0.40. Tesla Superchargers can be cheaper than EA etc., but you have to be careful because they can also be a lot more expensive.

Yes, there are few with $0.22 if you show up at 2am, but those same stations have high rates in the middle of the day.

The expensive one seem to be on the highway where they will be used on road trips. The cheaper ones seem to be more useful for daily commuters.
Which again is 100% correct. And the subsequent posts I made were to back up this statement with specific numbers, which are accurate.

If you want to argue membership vs. non-membership price, then you have to use the EA etc. membership rates as well, and my statement is STILL TRUE that "Superchargers can be cheaper than EA etc., but you have to be careful because they can also be a lot more expensive."

My numbers were correct, and still are. If you have a problem with what someone else said about pricing, then address their statements directly, don't quote me and attribute those wrong statements to me.

Looks as if everyone is correct -- from their own perspective, and with respect to the things THEY personally value. I love our discussions!

I paid the non-member price of $0.39/kWh at Moses Lake WA this weekend because:
(1) I didn't need very many kWh, just enough to get to Ellensburg with a headwind;
(2) I don't like to worry about enrolling/cancelling/enrolling in things; and
(3) I expect to need a Tesla Supercharger only a few times a year.

Last I checked, others whom I respect thought I was in my right mind. You all may disagree.

When we're tempted to become impatient with each other's different perspectives, remember that diversity of perspectives and unity of purpose are two of the most important things that make any group strong. My old friend Dave Yates said, "If two people always agree, one of them is unnecessary!"

Best to all!

Ah, I thought you were the OP who posted about the charger in my first screenshot. Sorry. That said, your statement that the prices are higher than what the other poster put is absolutely wrong.

It is 40 cents/kW at the Yakima charger with a membership which is 25% less than the non-member price. It takes two taps to enroll and cancel, so there's no reason to pay the full rate when it is so easy to get the cheaper price (unlike the membership process with most other EV charging networks).

EA only takes a couple of taps to cancel their membership and they are the second biggest charging network. I didn't think EVGo had a membership but maybe they do and some others too.

Imagine, just imagine for a minute the huge revolt that would take place in America, in the ICE world if the price of gas hit such scam costs. Sure, it might depend on utility rates, makes no diffence. $0.82/kWh would work out to about $28.00 per galon of gas in terms of equivalent energy content. Not even in far away NZ would this happen. Beyond gouging, this is absurd.

Even the lowest cost of charging I have seen would make the price of gas at $12/gallon.
In the PNW, where mighty cheap hydroelectric power is plentiful, cost of Tesla SC varies from about $0.22 to $0.40+. More tolerable.

I still will take my R1S on long trips from time to time, but my first choice for EV tripping is my Tesla Model S Performance because Elon gave me free electricity for at Tesla SCs for life. Thank you!
Do I just need to send Elon an email? “Dear Mr. Musk, My friends all seem to have free electricity for life. Can I have some too?”

Was going to suggest that you too buy a Tesla Model S or X, which came with free SC electricity for life, but I see Musk took that away already.
Indeed, Musk's been trying to bribe those of us S or X owners with eternal free juice into giving it up for lesser things. Yeah, right, Musk. Fat chance.

I just paid $.53 at a Tesla supercharger on the Cape. Very easy to find; very easy to charge; no wait no fuss. Worth every penny. Thrilled to have the option. Hope market forces push the cost down but until then I will still seek out Tesla chargers.

Just looking for a quick clarification -- I have an R1S and a Model Y, so I already have the Tesla app. I added my R1S in the "For Your Other EV" section of the Tesla app. It does not ask for a VIN, just brand, model and year.

Is that sufficient for me to now get member rates at Tesla SC's? I had assumed they'd want the VIN of the R1S.

Thanks, appreciate any clarity folks can add.

Cheers,
Ron

You would need to pay the monthly subscription to get the cheaper rate for the Rivian. The Tesla rate is only for the Tesla, does not include non-Tesla vehicles.

Right, so the $12.99/mo listed under the Management Membership in the "For Your Other EV" section of the charging options?

Cheers,
Ron

Ouch. Every time I've looked at Supercharger rates, they've looked like that. I know you can join their membership but that's like $12/month regardless if you use it or not. It takes several supercharges to even break even at that rate.

EA is more ... well EAish ... but with their $7/month plan the rates per kWh drop down to .38-.42...which is close to RAN rates.
Depending on how much juice you need, it takes one or two charges to break even. You can also join and “unjoin” easily if you are expecting to travel more in a given period.
