The shocking part of that story is that you found two EA chargers that actually charged.Ok. I am now currently charging at the EA station in Albertville, MN.
I first tried using the EA app to initiate a charge and get my membership rate. It worked. I opened the app, selected station 1, swiped to start, then plugged in. I got the membership rate of $0.48 per kWh
after onboarding 10 kWh I disconnected and moved down to station 5. I just plugged in and it initiated charging right away. I was charged the nonmember rate of $0.64 per kWh. After I stopped charging i immediately got an email from Rivian with my charging summary confirming the nonmember rate.
This location has the newest gen 4 chargers. Initiating in the app first works, at least for this generation of equipment.
I personally have had very good results with EA. I have found more nonfunctional or derated Supercharges in my neck of the woods. The shocking part of that story is that you found two EA chargers that actually charged.
Today I drove my R1S gen2 to Electrify America charge station to test two scenarios: 1. Plug & Charge without touching any thing. 2. Using EA app in iPhone to initiate charging before plugging in so i can use membership discount. I’m happy to report here that both methods went without a hitch. First bill was charged through Rivian app account (without discount) and second through EA app built in wallet (with discount). Before Plug & Charge update, you’re right, initiating in app like Tesla or EA is necessary. Now you don’t. Just plug it in and walk away. I tested couple times successfully at both V3 and V4 Tesla superchargers but not at EA yet. When I do, I’ll report here.
I too have rarely had issues with EA in my two years free charging with Hyundai Ioniq 5 covering almost 60k miles! But I do hear bad stories a lot online. My biggest complaint about EA is too few charging stalls per location. It makes road planning very tricky trying to avoid those often congested ones. The shocking part of that story is that you found two EA chargers that actually charged.
See above:OK - so it does work with EA by initiating through the app first? Rivian won't allow me to delete all credit cards on file - so that doesn't work. I'm holding off on updating until this is confirmed. May just need to go test an EA charger. They really just need an option to deactivate plug and charge. It's more headache than it's worth since the membership rates don't apply.

I always swipe that app before plugging in, and it works 100% of the time. In fact you will see a message on the charger screen that tells you to plug in, after it validates the payment. My Mach E has plug and charge, but because I have the membership, I always initiate with the app to get the discount. I do the same at Tesla chargers.Sorry but EA has never worked app-first for me. I will be emailing EA (Rivian contact form from above page says I have to call, which has never helped me), but also eagerly await a real user report of it working...

When you at charger, just select stall and swipe to charge. Then get out of car and plug in. It worked for me and I tested yesterday.Sorry but EA has never worked app-first for me. I agree, EA plug and charge is working great on my current road trip BUT it does not honor my EA membership discount, so back to the often annoying EA app.Love, love, love that I can plug and charge now at Electrify America. No more app, no more guessing what # charger I was at. It just works.
Have a couple options in town to fast charge, E.A. is the closest one to my shop. I'm happy I can plug and go.
Just a Thank You to Rivian for giving me a great feature. Now work on the rest of them ;-)
