I know I’m cynical, but I doubt disabling it actually alleviates the privacy concern. You may not be able to use the features, but I bet it still listens, all the time.
This is absolutely not true, and I just went out to test it with my wife and prove you wrong.
Me: “I bet Alexa is listening to us even though I disabled the active listening mode.”
Alexa: “No, I am not.”

I stand corrected.

I’ll 100% be disabling Alexa when I get my car. I’m aware I’ll lose some features but I’m okay with that.
I have a good dozen lamps & digital frames that I turn on with a single command with Alexa every A.M. and can turn them off the same way if I go out...I buy lots of stuff online, mostly from Amazon. I have Bing, Chrome, and Firefox each with specific tabs I like to read. Am I tracked up the wazoo? Sure...you are too if you are online. Enjoy the ride.

I like using the voice commands in the R1T without having to hit a button to do so. You might try it and like it.

That’s definitely true, everyone is tracked some way or the other. I try to minimize what I leave behind and what I give access to. I’ll definitely give it a shot when I get into my new R1S next year heh.

The sat view or road map? The latter should be able to be fixed by you by just editing open street maps.

If Rivian’s answer is “Thanks customer, here is the link to edit the map yourself”….they might as well go out of business now and return that cash to the shareholders.

There are very good navigation solutions available to them that don’t require them to roll their own. People don’t buy $100k vehicles to program their own addresses into the nav system.

You didn't answer the question...

I also doubt that's their answer, but using OSM does provide the user the ability to fix maps that they have found are wrong. Have yiu reported that its wrong to Rivian?

My neighborhood is wrong in every mapping system except Google (because I reported it) and OSM (because someone else fixed it before me). Mapping systems aren't perfect, and often rely on end user input to get them corrected.

Its not my condo that is missing.

I am a Waze editor, I know how maps get fixed. And Waze has a map editing community that has more people in it than Rivian will make vehicles in their first several years.

If the prior poster’s 5 year old condo is missing from OSM…that tells you a lot about the quality of OSMs editing community.

Rivian needs to quit the “roll your own navigation” solution and “rent” from one of the market winners.

I wouldn't classify OSM with mapbox as a bad solution. Personally I would prefer them to use a different base maps though, I agree.

It tells you the quality of the poster's community. OSM where I live receives updates as new construction is in the middle of happening.

Yeah, they definitely don't want to use the same mapping solution (Mapbox and OSM) as Porsche, BMW, Toyota, GM, Instacart, Strava, Weather Channel, CNN, AllTrails, Gaia, Square, Samsung, Kayak, Polaris, Land Rover, Booking.com, hotels.com, Suunto, Recreation.gov, and many others. That would be foolish...

Oh, the ****** system in my Cadillac is Mapbox? I wouldn’t wish that system on my worst enemy.

I have 3 better navigation options on my phone. I use those instead. Those three are the market leaders. Everyone else has failed, defeated by those three.

Edits and additions: Those three are really owned by two companies. And I have never viewed CNN, Weather Channel, Square, etc as navigation solutions. Maybe the fact that all the non navigation solutions use Mapbox/OSM is an indication that it isn’t really a navigation solution?

Multiple companies rely on Mapbox for entire navigation systems so yes, it's definitely a real navigation system. Or do you not think Gaia GPS, All Trails, and Instacart need real navigation?

I didn't mention them earlier because they don't use Mapbox, but Tesla has been using OSM for its navigation data for a while now. They overlay Google maps for the visualizations, but the nav is built on OSM.

I haven't used the Rivian system--I haven't even seen one of their trucks in person--but it's absurd to suggest they're using some third rate map system.

I've had ok luck with both Google and Apple Maps, but every single time I've used Waze it's taken me on ridiculous detours that took far longer than the normal more obvious route. I'm honestly shocked so many people talk like they can't live without it based on my own experiences.

Have you tried reporting the missing building and/or roads to Google? There were some errors on Google Maps in my neighborhood and I reported it to Google and they actually fixed it in a fairly quick amount of time.
