Does anyone know or has heard about a bed topper like you can get on pretty much every other truck available that's made for the Rivian? There's nowhere to put clamps on it like you would attach other toppers so I don't know how it would be done. I'm someone will come up with one using the mounting points for the cargo cross bars and the tent that they already have now but I need a cover that is as tall as the cab of the truck and covers the whole bed. I can't believe Rivian themselves don't already have one.
There aren’t any. Yet. Search the forum, there are a couple of threads.
Doubtless there will be some using the crossbar attachment points.

That's what I think too and I've scoured the forums and the web and found ZERO about one available now. It's almost a must have to put my dogs in the bed and take them places. 2 German Shepherds won't fit in the cab along with me, my wife and our 4 year old daughter.

that’s because there are zero available now ?

The AREs and Leers and other canopy manufacturers will surely start R&D once they get their hands on an R1T

Kiddo in the middle seat, a dog on each outboard seat…one hand to give treats to each dog!

according to a person at Rivian I spoke to yesterday, yes... you can stop the power cover at any point... I have no personal knowledge of this however.
You can, and it stays where you stopped it. Just be careful about letting it slam into objects, mine kind of went pop when it wasn't able to close all the way because of an object in the way. Didn't seem to damage it but the first panel wasn't quite in the right place until I let it go all the way open again.

I think that we will opt out and get our R1T without any tonneau cover. I think that I would rather have a proven tonneau cover design from Gator Trax for about the same cost.

Brian
How do you know if it will fit?

They will design one specifically to fit the Rivian R1T. By the time we get our truck, several aftermarketeers will already have one in stock.

That's not a bad idea but I've sat in the R1T a few times and my dogs are over 100lbs each. I was trying to picture putting them all in there and it would turn into a clown car real fast! I had a top on my last truck from Softopper out of Boulder, CO and it was perfect. They said they would need more demand before starting to R&D one for a new truck. And I watch the ARE and Leer websites weekly to just see. Those were my go to's in years past as well. I'm supposed to get my truck between July and September of this year if it stays on schedule so we will see what's out then.

I wish the access port to the gear tunnel were a bit larger for this very reason. My 20-25 lb terriers would love to be in there if they could move freely to and from the cab.

I was going back and forth on getting the tonneau cover. Putting it on pushes the price up to $79925. But I kinda kicked myself because I've been considering Raptors and TRXs for that price (or more). Not to mention the $11000 in tax credits I would still get from Colorado and the IRS.

So back on the config it went.

Of course I don't think Rivian will build mine until 2025 so I've got plenty of time to change my mind. (I'll be happy to be wrong on that).

Rivian needs to provide more information on what the manual bed cover panels are constructed from. I chose this option and need more details.

Can you stand on it? Aluminum? Composite material?

I'd also like to know if having the manual or no cover affects delivery timing. I'm assuming with the batch building that every truck they are cranking out right now has a powered tonneau, but I would like to get a better understanding of that. To my knowledge there hasn't been a single truck delivered without the powered tonneau to date but I'd definitely switch to the manual cover or no cover if it wouldn't affect delivery timing.

Considering we have yet to even see a render of one, I would the manual tonneau is on the back burner until we see at minimum a pdf of one.

Agreed re: the need for more info. I can't find it, but someone on this forum has said that they tested standing on the bedsides and heard a "cracking". Their judgement was that you could not stand on them. And if you can't stand on the bed sides, you almost certainly will not be able to stand on any cover.

I'd *really* like this to be wrong.

P.S. I believe it was the same owner as above that posted pics of his bed and bed sides after resting 2x4s on the bedsides once. His bed was also quite scared from a single hauling of I can't recall what. I get that my Rivian will be a "lifestyle", first iteration EV truck and I'm happy with most of what that implies. But the pictures I saw of the bedside and after one time hauling 2x4s looked more damaged than 6 years of using my Tacoma.; including sharp edged steel yard edging. I believe both are "composite" beds.

Did I mention Rivian needs a rubber bed mat? :)

Rivian is switching to a metal cover, which I will guess is the material for both manual and electric.
