We finally have the R1T in our possession. The Factory Delivery was a great experience. We also took the factory tour. We were very impressed. The delivery process was very well done. SuEllyn took a test drive with one of the Rivian technicians.

We love driving her. We put 30 miles on Opal just tooling around Normal.

Here are some pictures from the delivery.

Original Post (Pre-Delivery):

We are finally taking delivery of our long-awaited R1T at the Rivian Factory tomorrow. We have been in this thing for almost 4 1/2 years. We were beginning to think that this day would never come. We live in the western Florida Panhandle far from any of the Rivian Service Centers. This kept pushing us back on the delivery list. At the advice of some here on the Forums, we changed our address to our son's in Jacksonville. He was also a very early adopter and already has his R1S. Within hours of making this change, we were granted access to the R1 Shop and were assigned a guide. Our guide, Pam, made contact with us and we told her that we wanted to take Factory Delivery.

Pam provided us with information about orphan R1T's at the Factory. There were two Rivian Blue trucks available. Neither had our preferred wheel/tire configuration, but we were seriously considering taking one. We told Pam that we would sleep on it and let her know the next morning. First thing the next morning Pam called and told us that an Orphan R1T that had just rolled off the assembly line that was of our exact configuration. We locked that one up on the spot and within hours had the VIN. Our VIN ends 224xx.

We now have completed all of the process to purchase and have an appointment to take delivery of our dear Opal (we had already named her a couple of years ago) tomorrow (April 26th) afternoon at 1:00 PM.

We started our trip to Normal last Saturday. We pulled our Airstream travel trailer to Normal with our Silverado Duramax. We arrived here yesterday and got settled into a campground about five miles from the Rivian Factory. We drove by the Factory yesterday afternoon to pick up a prescription for SuEllyn from Pam. She was kind enough to receive SuEllyn's prescription for us. We happened to arrive at the Factory during shift change. It was a very busy place. The lots surrounding the Factory were chuck full of Rivians including many of the delivery vans.

We are sitting in the Airstream this morning in Normal, Illinois. It is pouring rain right now but is supposed to clear later today. Our plan is to take delivery of Opal tomorrow. We will then stay here and spend several days touring Central Illinois in the new truck. This will give us the opportunity to become familiar with driving an EV. When we feel that we are ready, we will hook the Airstream to Opal and head back to Florida. SuEllyn will tow the Airstream with the R1T and I will follow in the Silverado.

We will keep you all posted on how this adventure unfolds.

Here is a photo of a truck load of Rivians on their way out of town.

There is something that I forgot to mention about our Factory Delivery. Curtis gave us the factory tour. He was very knowledgeable and did an excellent job. Reed and Jessica did our delivery. They were both excellent and got us off on the right foot. We can't say enough good things about the Factory Delivery process.

That makes sense, 5 R1S vehicles is around 35k pounds, a tractor and empty trailer could approach 40k lbs and the weight limit on US roads is 80k lbs.

Just curious, are you going to try pulling the trailer home? If you do let us know how it goes.

I was in your neck of the woods (Destin and Watercolor) a few weeks ago, really nice area with great whites and beaches.

We do plan to use the R1T to do some of the towing of the Airstream back to Florida. We are confident that Opal can handle the towing of the 7,000# Airstream. We are just going to have to see how the range figures work out.

Our usual mode of Airstream travel is to avoid the Interstates. Our trip up here to Illinois did not include any Interstate travel. We think that we will change our routine on the way home and follow the Interstate route to afford us more EV charging opportunities. Regardless, the last 150 miles home, there is no Interstate.

I might be allowed to drive it some. I will mostly be driving the Silverado oil burner whose name in Vivian. If this name was not already in use, we could have had "Vivian the Rivian".

By the way, are you the same ScottnAZ who is on AirForums with the 23FB?

Yup, same one. 2022 FC23CB. The Riv tows it nicely, and I’ll be interested to hear about your experience towing a slightly larger/heavier airstream.

have a great trip!

She's beautiful! Congrats. Also the name Opal rules. You're sure to have tons of great memories with your new Rivian.

I'm pretty sure car carriers max out around 40,000 or so in carrying capacity.

They do or even less, the 80k is gross weight, includes tractor and trailer.
