You’re going to love it, I can hardly tell my 23cb is back there other than the range. Have heard great things about Starved Rock State Park if you guys are planning to stay a week, it’s an hour north of Normal and much prettier. I’ve got a SC 10 min from the house, but have only been there once other than pickup ?

I'm pulling a 25FB so I have about a thousand pounds on you. I am very confident that my R1T will pull the Airstream very well. The R1T has about the same torque as my Duramax. The R1T is actually stronger than the Duramax as it has its full torque at any RPM. The Duramax doesn't reach full torque until about 1600 RPM. My main concern is range when towing a 7,000# trailer.

We are finally taking delivery of our long-awaited R1T at the Rivian Factory tomorrow. We have been in this thing for almost 4 1/2 years. We were beginning to think that this day would never come. We live in the western Florida Panhandle far from any of the Rivian Service Centers. This kept pushing us back on the delivery list. At the advice of some here on the Forums, we changed our address to our son's in Jacksonville. He was also a very early adopter and already has his R1S. Within hours of making this change, we were granted access to the R1 Shop and were assigned a guide. Our guide, Pam, made contact with us and we told her that we wanted to take Factory Delivery.

Pam provided us with information about orphan R1T's at the Factory. There were two Rivian Blue trucks available. Neither had our preferred wheel/tire configuration, but we were seriously considering taking one. We told Pam that we would sleep on it and let her know the next morning. First thing the next morning Pam called and told us that an Orphan R1T that had just rolled off the assembly line that was of our exact configuration. We locked that one up on the spot and within hours had the VIN. Our VIN ends 224xx.

We now have completed all of the process to purchase and have an appointment to take delivery of our dear Opal (we had already named her a couple of years ago) tomorrow (April 26th) afternoon at 1:00 PM.

We started our trip to Normal last Saturday. We pulled our Airstream travel trailer to Normal with our Silverado Duramax. We arrived here yesterday and got settled into a campground about five miles from the Rivian Factory. We drove by the Factory yesterday afternoon to pick up a prescription for SuEllyn from Pam. She was kind enough to receive SuEllyn's prescription for us. We happened to arrive at the Factory during shift change. It was a very busy place. The lots surrounding the Factory were chuck full of Rivians including many of the delivery vans.

We are sitting in the Airstream this morning in Normal, Illinois. It is pouring rain right now but is supposed to clear later today. Our plan is to take delivery of Opal tomorrow. We will then stay here and spend several days touring Central Illinois in the new truck. This will give us the opportunity to become familiar with driving an EV. When we feel that we are ready, we will hook the Airstream to Opal and head back to Florida. SuEllyn will tow the Airstream with the R1T and I will follow in the Silverado.

We will keep you all posted on how this adventure unfolds.

Here is a photo of a truck load of Rivians on their way out of town.

Congratulations on waiting! I too knew the moment I saw the truck at the LA Auto Show, it was what I wanted if they actually made it. I think they had 60-70 employees at the time. You are going all-in on the tow right out of the gate!! Good luck on your trip home, that will be good for some stories!!

I wouldn't get one then. It's so simple. Get another car. Nobody should get something that they are going to bitch and moan about going into it. Lots of people on this forum have issues with potential service issues knowing exactly what they are getting into and it's incredibly tiresome. They are a start up with limited locations and trying to build more.
This is exactly my sentiment! Every vehicles have service issues. Are you going to bitch and moan every time you need to take your vehicle in for service? You know how far it is/how long it takes so if you can't handle it, don't buy it. My R1T has been a joy to own/drive - I use every opportunity to take it for a drive, including 200 miles each way to the SC. That's coming from a current owner of a 911 Turbo S and a Cayenne Turbo Coupe.

My time is worth $$$$ when I was still working. Now that I'm retired, I love every minute of driving my vehicles, and R1T is on top of the list. Your $600/hr is meaningless if you're not enjoying every minute of it.

I will do better than that! I will take a vacation to Florida to drive your Rivian to the SC!

We felt the same way when we first saw the Rivian. This prompted to SuEllyn to hunt up the Rivian website on-line. When she found out that she she could make a deposit on one, she did so immediately. In the summer of 2019 we attended a Rivian expo in Denver where we got to see the R1T and R1S in person. We got to meet and speak to RJ and some the top engineers.

We are lifelong car people. We owned a DeLorean for thirty years. We have had Alfas, and our current daily driver is a 1956 Ford Thunderbird.

We have wanted Rivian from the very beginning, and today is the day!

When passing through IL last month, we stopped to charge in Lincoln at the Walmart EA 350kW charger. We went to Obed and Isaac’s brewpub in town. Good food, great beer and service.

Thank you for the tip. We may run down there and try out the restaurant and the charger.

Thank you. That makes our day! We just sold the DeLorean Last year. I guess that make this R1T a replacement vehicle for a DeLorean.

What's more fun than driving an 835 hp truck with more torque than a Ferrari??
