Has anyone investigated trailering the R1T? Those of us that want to tow the truck behind our RV will require a trailer like the Aluma EX 8200 series tilt trailer. Bed length 219in (18'3") or 244in (20'4") ft? Has anyone tried the R1T on a tilt trailer? Does it balance easily? Is the 18ft long enough, or does the truck hang over the back? Any other experiences?

Tilt deck? Max suspension height and crawl mode. Up you go.

truck should balance nice given inherently even weight distribution.

its 17.9ft long. Get the 18’ trailer unless you want to make your combination even longer

The R1T is quoted as 217.1 in long. I would go with the 244" version of the trailer instead of just the 219" version.

At over 7,000 pounds for the R1T, just be sure whatever trailer you pick can handle that weight. It looks like the trailer you mentioned has a pair of 3,500 pound axles, so it would have a gross weight limit of 7,000 pounds. The longer trailer weighs 1,600 pounds, so you would be at about 8,800 pounds total, or well over the limit of those axles.

The R1T has a 51/49 front-rear wheel weight distribution. Most gas powered vehicles are going to have a larger percentage of the weight on the front wheels. Check the tongue weight before heading out the first time, which goes without saying.

From the shareholder newsletter, as of Dec 15, Rivian had only delivered 384 R1T vehicles. You're going to have to wait a few more months to find someone that does the (in my mind) extreme corner case of trailering their brand new R1T with a personal trailer.

Why would you buy a heavy electric vehicle just to tow it behind an RV?

My RV is my home. I tow a vehicle to use when I get where I'm going. The Rivian is a combination Jeep/Pickup/garage.

Thanks for your thoughts. I don't expect my delivery for a year. Aluma has a 6+ month build time, so I have time to gather this info.

Aluma offers 5200 lb axles as an option. No problem. My RV is 45' adding the 219" bed is a 24+ft length... 2ft longer is more weight. And shorter is easier to find places to park. The reason to consider going longer is for ability to balance to avoid too much tongue weight if necessary.

I would go longer for the reason you mention. You will want it close to centered over the axles, slightly forward, and with the shorter trailer deck it might not be possible to get the truck positioned correctly.

Yeah, that would be nice... other than the horrible tire wear...? ... oh, and the extra fuel to tow...?

Beautiful trailer. Too bad it's too narrow, too short and can't carry the weight. Other than that... Perfect!

Ok it's been a minute. The Aluma was a great trailer. Loading was tight (1 inch space between the fenders... 1/2 in each side). I put about 5-7000 miles towing the R1T on it. It ate tires. I had 5 blow outs plus 1 additional puncture. Yes the trailer tire pressures were right, I used a monitor system, and I inspected them every time I loaded. I think the load was too close to max for the tires, dual axles tend to scrub the tires in turns and of course road debris may have contributed. All in all it was an experience. I'm happy it's over. Sold the RV and trailer but still loving Evie.
