Sorry about that. I think a lot of people are like me and just review the page with all posts and not the sub-groups. So we don’t think of specific topics.

We just see “look at this”. I know I get so excited after even after 15 months I still find ways to always show off pictures.
No worries - I use the shit out of what ever vehicle I have. Be it my old Leaf or now my new R1S. Rigs are meant to be used and not put on a pedestal. The fact I could not secure the hatch doesn’t mean I’m not going to use it it means I’m gonna devise a solution to better secure the hatch on future trips. That or toss my crossbars up top before ?

I really miss being able to load 4x8 sheet goods and 12 ft boards into my suburban with the hatch closed.

On the other hand, I'm not sure if I want to beat up my Rivian by cramming big stuff (often with pointy edges) in it anyway. Renting a trailer once a month when I need to move something big is probably the better option even when you do have space.

No need to always haul…

as said above, go to U-Haul. No need to rent a truck in most cases, just $25 for a trailer for a day. Unlimited miles. Keep the mess in the rental and hose it out.

I find it funny y’all are in the R1S specific sub-forum letting me know to just get a truck instead.

Talking about hauling in your R1Ts - exceptions made for those that own both R1S and R1Ts.
Can’t we all just get along? ?

I think you and I would get along in the real world. I tell everyone that there is no since buying it if I can’t use it. It’s all about utility for me. I load my front trunk so much that my front tub doesn’t look new any more. I bought PPF for my gear tunnel threshold and that is even scratched up. I have had so many pallets of goods in the bed of my truck that the textured bumps on the plastic floor are almost gone.

I know this isn't Rivian related, but it's related to getting the full use out of your vehicle. Here I am in my Model S hiding under a 13', really wide christmas tree. :D

I drove home slowly on local roads and still used 700 wh/mile, aka about 1.5 mile/kwh.

4x8 Lattice - 5 sheets and 16 2x2s

IMG_0279.jpeg

Cannot (as expected) fit a full 4x8 sheet - my 1992 Plymouth Grand Voyager is still unmatched in that regard. And no reassuring way to secure hatch with a tie down or strap (when you can’t shut it fully). Tie downs did their jobs very well.

Inside view was cool with the reflection-

As far as cargo space, the *best of the best* SUVs was the Ford Excursion which could haul 38 sheets of 4x8x1" plywood in the back w/ the *full-size* spare w/ the hatch closed !

FWIW, also the diesel Excursion had an 800 mile range since it came w/ a 44 gal tank and got 18+ miles/gal.

That said, considering the price of diesel, I'll take my R1S now and get a trailer if I need to haul anymore than can fit in the back and/or top of it. ;-)

I think we are missing my point a bit - I “graded” it a B; that is not a bad grade (better than most of my college career!). It did exactly what I needed it to do without needing an extra trip on a slightly unplanned purchase.

The R1S did great, if there had been a more obvious way to help secure the hatch it would have been an A- to be fair.

I’ll continue to use it for these types trips (adding some new bits to my in vehicle kit for sure) - and it’ll be even better once all of my cargo mats are installed.

I'll like to hear what you come up with for securing the hatch.

Feel like R1S + trailer would be a great solution for many. I don't haul often enough or have space for the trailer myself though.

This is why I have an R1T…
Before my R1T arrived I bought a small 8’ trailer. It was like a package deal. I have hauled tons of stuff that I wouldn’t put in the T. Of course I have a space for the trailer. After I got the T I realized I could do all I need with S and the trailer. I would have more functionality and the S just looks awesome.
