Once UWB is enabled on the Gen 2 shouldn't a dead phone be able to unlock the car?

Similar to you, I took the car to the carwash, my 4 year old daughter strapped on her car seat in the back, car on carwash mode, phone on the charging pad, I pulled to the vacuums and closed the door, and since it was on carwash mode I was locked outside.

I started to scream to my daughter to get off the car seat (which she's done in the past while driving so now is super tight) and after 10 ish minutes of her trying, I attempted to pen all doors, frunk and trunk finally opened, I climbed though the back and was able to finally turn carwash mode off.
@LoveTacos - That's a scary situation, but it's not how carwash mode works...The door handles don't extend out, but the car isn't locked - you just need to push one side of the handle to make it stick out and then you'll be able to open the door like normal. Give it a try in your driveway or garage. Put it in carwash mode and then exit with your phone in the car (have your fob or your wife's phone nearby in case your Rivian is somehow different) and you'll see what I mean. It's just not clear that the vehicle is unlocked because the handles remain flush.

I was wondering, the scenario described of getting locked out when in carwash mode seems like it would happen often...as many vacuum right after a wash.

The fob is still my main key and always will be in my Rivian and my Telsa.

After 40 years mobile phones continue to be an unreliable technology partner when needed most. Spotty apps, Dropped calls, dead battery, service dark spots, etc.

Love my iPhone, but won't rely on it as my primary anything other than a phone.

That happened to me exactly and I thank this forum for knowing what to do. Car wash turns off automatically when you hit 12 MPH, but I came out of the carwash and went to the vacuums. I got out without my phone, gently wiped her to remove any water spots, and went to grab the vacuum and realized that none of the handles were out! I remembered what I'd read and simply pushed the driver's handle, opened the door, and turned off carwash mode AND stuck my phone in my pocket!

That's the idea, yes
Not really. The UWB chipset still needs power to operate. It does use very little power so some, i.e. Apple, implementations allow the UWB chipset to be powered on even if the rest of the phone is off but if the phone is truly dead, UWB will not work. NFC does work in this scenario because the reader wirelessly provides enough power for the chip to run but UWB is actively transmitting, not just waiting to be challenged.

I'm using Waak for Apple Watch. It allows your watch to be us as PAAK same as your phone. Works great.
What is the name of the app for that? Is it just the Rivian app on the watch?

Almost had the same experience, only camping in a very remote area. Three of us, my nephew, good friend and me. So I gave the key fob to my friend, the card to my nephew and kept the phone. I always leave the phone on the charge pad when driving. When we returned to camp I got out to the truck and walked away and as soon as I heard the door lock chirp I realized my phone was inside. No problem I asked my nephew for the key card. He says "It's in my backpack, in the truck. Great. Luckily I had given the fob to my friend and we were able to get into the truck. Otherwise it would have been a very long tow from an area with no cell service.

To start; I am an idiot. I dont need piling on. Also, this is more for the newer owners.

There i was, walking my dog on a picturesque coastal Maine beach. It was a really nice morning. One of those warm 10° feels like -2 days. I admit (see above) I left the house with a low phone battery. After taking a photo to send to my wife who is currently in a much warmer climate; my phone died. What were the chances that when i cleaned my wallet out during my last work trip i put the card back in it? Nope!!! There ensued my having to walk my dog 2 miles home and me having to ride my bike back. With my wife's ill-fitting helmet. (Mine of coure was in the truck.)

So! Positives and Deltas. Nice day, my dog and i got more exercise. Plus i got some reinforced life lessons. Always have a second form of a key with you.
Can the old fashion "Locksmiths" towtruck key people get in Rivians? No one has asked this..

I left my apartment realizing the keys were hanging on a hook inside just as the door shuts behind me. This hitch safe saved my butt on several occasions:

The thing I haven't liked about hitch safes is the locking hitchpins seem like they are easily broken off. The one you linked to looks like the hitch pin holes have inserts that are secured from the inside. You feel like it is secure? Whats in the hitch safe is all anyone needs to ride off in my truck (with no pin to drive feature).
