ABRP has been completely useless in trying to plan trips, I can't be alone with this opinion.

Example I drive Dallas to Bentonville every 1-2 months, it's 400 miles each way, I know where the chargers are, so I use plug share and know which ones are currently working and which ones aren't. IF I try to use ABRP it adds 100 miles to the trip, using chargers that are inoperable.

Why Rivian bought them I don't really understand, at least for me, it's not just worthless, if I blindly went along using it it would turn a 7 hour trip into a 10+ hour trip.

You are 100% correct - that is exactly my experience. For almost any trip I plan, if I use ABRP it uses the longest route, inefficient chargers, or defunct (for more than a few months) charges. I agree with you - they are useless, and I am not sure why Rivian bought them. Maybe for some algorithm or so. I hope google maps will come soon with EV route planning and we will be in perfect situation. All this proprietary attempts to make "better" user experience is a really pitty stories... IMHO

I'm glad you confirm my experience.

That being said I'm a waze guy, and what I can't understand is why Waze is not offering (or apple maps, google maps) an EV setting so that it will show you charging stations rather than gas stations. Even if it doesn't communicate with the range of your vehicle, it would at least be viable for seeing charging stations and with Waze being updated socially I think it would integrate charging station updates constantly which would essentially integrate what you get out of plug share into waze............and if that all worked, THEN there would be a bigger reason to want apple car play in the vehicle, since none of the nav apps currently work for EV it really eliminates my personal desire for car play (not entirely I still like it)

I agree and find I use plug share and plan out trips beforehand then use the Rivian nav to go from charger to charger only so it prepares the battery. While using the nav from Rivian the person sitting in the passenger seat will typically give other directions from Waze or Google Maps and traffic updates.

What is really bad is when you are driving and it recalculates that you can make your destination removing a charger you wanted to actually charge. With that it never updates traffic or arrival time to the point on long trips it was hours off.

The entire NAV guidance needs a major update in my mind. It is not good and at times isn't even user friendly.

I use ABRP pretty constantly and find it excellent for what it is. They're plugging a whole in the app by starting to collect charger data from users.

The Plugshare rating system on the other hand is an absolute dumpster fire, and about as close to useless as you can get. At least users leave comments to cut through their rating BS. Don't forget, in Plugshare's mind, a 35 stall station made of 350kw chargers that has only 1 charger working that provides a whopping 37kw would be considered a successful session and worth of a "10" rating.

I am running the Waze as well, but primarily for police traps. Google Maps does show you EV chargers on the route as well as their ratings. So it helps a bit.

The NAV system is the biggest and most frustrating issue with the Rivian. We get this really nice sized screen that "for the most part" is really useless. You would think that Rivian would make getting this updated, corrected and useful the #1 priority. Again this is a really nice sized screen that is the biggest complaint I see on this form for it's uselessness. It's a shame. Would love to see a response from the Rivian team as to what they are proactively working on. Until then I use Waze and my phone for directions.

I am glad you have a good experience. Try to use ABRP to drive from Austin, TX to Lost Maple State Park and then compare it to google maps. ABRP adds 20+ miles w/o ANY reason. Also, the expected drive time is 30% off in ABRP.

Or try to plan a route from Austin to Rockport, TX. 211 miles only, but it insists you can not make it even when you specify 2.9 miles per kW for 65mph and set arrival SoC to 10%. But what's worse ABRP insists you charge at a nonworking charger (for more than a few months).

So I am glad it is working for you, but for me, it is really not.

They need to stop spending time and money for nothing - just integrate Car Play / Android Auto and mark it done.

My current way to plan a trip - use google maps, click on EV charging option, see where the charges are, check them in plugshare and make corrections if needed. Well, and then pray when you have an actual trip as who knows what you will get when you are actually at the charger. :)

what makes it useless? I used it on a 2200 mile road trip and it worked just fine.

I have documented to Rivian and sent in photos. It wants to take my 17 minutes out of my way on back roads to get home. Even when I'm on the parkway (2 lanes in each direction) leading out to my planned community when I'm 2 miles from my house it's trying to get me to turn around and go back the other way. They know about this and have done NOTHING to correct it. I don't trust the Nav system that can't even take me the fastest and best route to get to my house. Why would I trust it on an road trip? The Tesla Nav system was not perfect but I did trust it's navigation routing.
