The sc said nothing was wrong but they are testing on their 8kw units at the shop. Lowering the amps does work to charge mine. But not really helpful for those of us with 11kw chargers.

Also I've noticed DC fast chargers that charge my kWh cut off while those that charge by the minute reconnect and retry.
So far, when I have had charging errors, that the app specifies as Vehicle Error, it has been on 6kw chargers. Rivian has asked my to try my 11kw home charger, to see if that gives me a problem.

My R1T started having this problem on the 11k W Rivian home charger about 3 weeks ago, after charging reliably at 48 amps at home for the first 9 months I owned the truck. Doesn't happen on the 6.6 kW Chargepoint chargers at my work, or on any Level 3 chargers I have tried.

I opened a service ticket and their initial recommendation was to reset the truck and the charger, which made no difference. As a result of this forum, I tried reducing the amperage from 48a to 32a, and that seems to resolve the problem, but charging time is longer. I tried to bump up to 40a, but tripping cycle resumed. Current open service ticket.

Has anyone gotten a permanent fix for this "vehicle error" problem?

I started getting these errors a while back and so I scheduled a ticket as early as possible (over a month out). During that wait, my R1S suddenly died with total lack of power and had to be towed off to the Gaithersburg SC.

After 2 weeks in the SC, they only replaced the 12V battery and blamed the problem on a bug in 2024.07.02 so they updated it to 2024.11.02 (which came out while my car was sitting at the SC). They told me they thoroughly tested the entire charging system (both L2 and L3).

I got home and started getting "vehicle error" problems again when the car would wake up and top off the battery. I lose a total of 2 days of work every time I have to take it to the SC, and can't keep taking it back there so it can sit for over a week before only an hour of work is done (which doesn't actually fix the problem but is designed to dump the customer so they can move on to the next one). I'm worried that my Rivian will leave me stranded again.

I've had this happen maybe 3 or 4 times over the course of the last year. It starts charging at scheduled time and then gets red error. One time this resulted in my Rivian being bricked because Rivian itself was caught in some type of doom loop and drained the 12v battery.

It was fixed. each time by resetting the Rivian charger at the breaker.

When this happened the last time, Rivian instructed me to take pictures of the charger inside and out and send them to them. They didn't see anything obviously wrong. They also looks at the logs from my vehicle and the charger and sent an OTA software update to the Rivian wall charger. They think that solved the problem.

It hasn't happened for me since, but only time will tell since it only occurred once every couple months. Hoping for the best!

I'm having the same issue after working fine the first several charges after getting it installed. It failed the last couple days with the charger light now SOLID RED after unplugging from R1S and resetting the breaker, so not even plugged in and the charger is failing. I plugged in the portable 110v charger just to see if the SUV would be OK with that and so far ( couple hours ) it seems fine but obviously that is not an option. I sent email for support but so far (36 hours ) received nothing but auto response. I'm hoping this is just an OTA firmware or software update to the charger but since it won't boot, there is no WIFI connection. Makes the car somewhat worthless to be in the driveway.

After some success with the Charge Team, I was able to charge ONCE and then when scheduled again for night charge, failed after a few minutes. Today, I was able to start charging manually but then it stopped after a while. I unplugged from suv and replugged but only started for less than minute and on second try, stopped with SOLID RED on the charger. Found from charge team that if it fails 3 times, everything has to be reset as it thinks someone is messing with the plug so I reset breaker and reset R1S and trying again but mean time, going to collect all the photos of the charger, port, breakers etc and submit for repair/replace ticket. Can't tolerate unreliable charge as vehicle becomes a parking place holder.

I had this same problem a few months ago. Rivian sent over a new charger, but the same issue kept happening. I finally opened the breaker box panel and took a look at the wires. One of the hot wires to the charger was burnt and loose. The loose wire was causing an arc and surge, tripping the breaker each time. I replaced the breaker, stripped and cleaned the wire, and made sure it was screwed in tight. Haven't had a problem since.
