For $15, I was hoping for a little more; what are everyone's thoughts on this?

All Rivian vehicles come with standard connectivity features such as:

  • Regular over-the-air software updates
  • Live navigation
  • Remote vehicle commands
  • Phone as a key
  • Alexa Basic (for vehicle commands)
  • Tethering (connecting the vehicle to an external Wi-Fi network or phone hotspot)
On June 6, 2024, Rivian announced Connect+ which will provide additional connected vehicle features such as:

  • In-vehicle hotspot
  • Satellite Images
  • Alexa Connected commands
  • Data to access music streaming apps like Spotify, Tidal and TuneIn (Apple Music coming later this summer)
  • Google Cast and YouTube (coming later this summer)
  • Gear Guard Live Cam (coming later this year)
Connect+ will be available in vehicles later this summer. At that point, we’ll introduce a two-month trial for all existing owners.

Connect+ will cost $14.99 per month ($19.99 CAD) or $149.99 per year ($199.99 CAD). You'll be notified towards the end of your trial and be able to sign up via the Rivian app, in-vehicle infotainment, and your Account Page.

$15mo/$149yr for unlimited LTE connectivity is relatively low really. That's all connect+ boils down to. You'll still be able to use streaming services via connecting to your phone's hotspot thru wifi. They plan to activate wifi in drive mode along with that.

Have they confirmed active wifi in drive? It’s pretty useless for kids now to have to wait until you stop to use the wifi.

With the amount of Spotify and Hotspot the kids use, the price is a bargain unless they will throttle or cap data.

Connecting devices to the in-car Wi-Fi (hotspot) is already active currently - no change there. Your kids should be able to connect to that to stream on their personal devices while you are driving.

The change being mentioned is that, in a future software update once Connect+ goes live, the vehicle will allow you to connect to your own Wi-Fi network (i.e., a hotspot or tether from phone) to run the in-vehicle connected services (presumably the built-in apps like Spotify, tune-in, Tidal, etc.) using your existing cellular plan without subscribing to Connect+.

Except you won’t have LTE access after a while unless you get Connect+ (right?)

but today you can, yes.

What will they be taking away from Alexa for standard? Or adding for the subscription?

Oh really!! The hotspot icon shows grayed out while I’m driving. Will test it out today. Thanks!

Seems like a great deal. Audi is twice that much for half the features.

If its grayed out, reboot the entertainment screen. That will fix it.

No mention of SiriusXM as a streaming service... Whatever happened to that?

About the hotspot... Gen1 is probably not 5G capable, but what about Gen2? The LTE hotspot doesn't have that much value for me, I don't think I have ever used it. I wonder how fast it is with 2 or 3 teenagers on it. I think I will try leaving my ATT 5G hotspot in the center console and set to "always on".

SiriusXM is coming later this year. It's separate from Connect +.

I had this happen on a recent road trip. Kids always use the hotspot and for some reason it would not connect until I did a reboot and it fixed the issue.
