I didn't say CarPlay because I took it as a given that almost everyone with an iPhone wanted it. I know I really miss it after driving a car that has it, like my ID4, or the rental Buick I just had.
How were/are the native systems on those vehicles?

@csharp: We use odometer to track business, charitable, and personal mileage for daily log.

A convenient location, for something used daily, is kind of important.

Best wishes!
My Polestar had a drive journal app that could be used to manage and recollect that information after the fact. I didn't really use it at all, since that's not my use case for a vehicle. Perhaps something else Rivian could consider implementing for people like you though.

Curious - what other vehicles do/did you have better Bluetooth experiences in?
We don't want bluetooth, we want to play our own music, uncompressed, and without a data connection. Half of my daily drive is in an area without cellular coverage, Rivian's dependence on BT and streaming has held me back.

To answer your question though,
  • BMW - the ix connects to my iPod Classic without a hitch.
  • Volvo C40 plays FLAC from a thumbdrive (otherwise the UI is far less than ideal). It also allows downloads from streaming services for offline access.
Can it be that hard to either open up the USB port connectivity or allow us to download music via Apple/Spotify/Tidal/Whatever streaming service, so the tunes can go on even where the cellular service can't keep up?

A couple more presets for climate control. Two for hot days. Two for cold days.

I really don't care about having it on the main screen, so if it gets added I wont complain... but why are all you people wanting your odometer on a main screen? How often are you having to check your odometer?! And for what reason?! I have had to look at either one total of 2 or 3 times in my 3 year ownership.
People have mentioned a few already - leases, tracking mileage for business purposes.

Any time you aren't using maps directions it's helpful. Mainly off-roading. Lots of directions are given in terms of miles. You're on a 10 mile trail that's not on the maps and you've been driving between 2 and 8 mph for an hour. Nice to keep track of how far along you are.

People have mentioned driving around their property doing truck things and wanting an odo reading.

Sometimes in mountains I want to do mental math about efficiency and range, the range-o-meter is bad to useless.

Sometimes I just want to know how far things are.

Don't really know. I went right to CarPlay. All I was is to play music/pod casts from my phone using the car's screen to control things and to use google for nav.

A vehicle that can allow one to easily upgrade the "hardware" (plug & play) towards being able to run software updates long term. I feel this EV world will be hardware restricted like a PC trying to run a newer windows when the other components (frame, battery, motors, suspension, etc) can last for 10 years (+200,000 miles). Long life cycle of the vehicle as a whole can help the environment even further long term. Plus provide a better ROI for the owner long term.

FONT SIZE AND VISIBILITY, especially on the far right of the center screen, are key to usability for older drivers....

Best to all!
AGREE!!! I have to put reading glasses on to see what time it is...Reading glasses not the best thing to have on while driving!

Small ask for Rivian: please let us reorder the items in our Navigation Favorites! 🚗✨

Sometimes the places I use most get buried, and being able to drag-and-drop them to the top would make life so much easier. Who else wants this? 🙋‍♂️
