guides start reaching out this week. People
Just going to throw it out there, this is filling a minor lack of information with a huge amount of assumptions. Rivian has in fact had two early vehicles (Vin 1 and 2) drive South America to LA 2 years ago?. They have also since had their vehicle in the Rebelle Rally along with a myriad of other testing leading up to South America, and since. It's pretty safe to assume that they know how far these vehicles can go (or could go) prior to announcing numbers. Also, Rivian has the largest battery packs of any manufacturer to date, so I'm sure its going to go the distance.

To your point, sorta, terrain will have a huge impact on range. I hope everyone here isn't expecting 300 miles on highway and 300 miles on a dirt road or overlanding. In saying that, I can see the "thats not the 300 miles they said" comments when it comes up it get 200 off road
They've also been driving a decent number of vehicles around testing them. Speculating is just going to drive us nuts with guessing. If there is an issue, they'll communicate it when they're ready. If not, they'll communicate when they're ready.

Might I suggest, that a single, well-crafted email from Rivian would be all it takes to assuage the concerns that so many are expressing? No, we aren't entitled to it, and it's not required, but if Rivian is monitoring forums and facebook and Reddit like we assume they are, you'd think the comms team would step in.

I'm no marketing expert, but how much better would those who are concerned feel if they received this email?

That took me one minute to type, and makes the assumption that guides don't reach out this week.
Perfect! It would make everyone happy

I agree 1,000% that my speculation is overblown and wholly unsubstantiated....

I'd so happily trade it for a meaningful word out of Rivian.
Don't worry, they told a few people that they "Had some exciting things to share" wait for it.... "Soon!"

If Rivian plans to release information about the UI on Thursday, it looks like their “thunder” will probably be stolen by Lucid tomorrow:

Unfortunately, that's what happens in situations like this. It's why it's so important to control the narrative through a well executed communication plan.

Back on the topic of this thread, I think what we'll learn this week is that initial deliveries are going to be delayed again - anywhere from between 30-90 days. Customer deliveries will start by (the end of) summer, and the large battery packs will start rolling out in Spring 2022. We'll hear about how they want to deliver the best vehicles and how right now is a challenging time with the pandemic and component shortages and yadda yadda.

They might hedge a bit by saying something about delivering 'production intent' vehicles to trusted partners or VIPs or whatever in June to kinda-sorta show deliveries, but I don't think that's the expectation. (trucks delivered to a public at large reservation holders after talking to a guides)

I hate that I think that this is the most likely next development and I hope I'm wrong.

Didn’t Ford give some early Mach-e order holders who were delayed deliveries like a $1,000 for sticking with them? Rivian, time to Overdeliver!

See, now this is one prediction we can pretty safely debunk based on facts we know. The facts being that just last week, Rivian Support was telling people cleanly and plainly that they are "still on track to start production in June". I don't remember the exact thread/message on here where I saw that, but at least 2 people asked Rivian Support a question about timeline and got an answer like that.

So unless we're speculating that Rivian Support is wrong and misinformed and we in the forums know something more? Doesn't make sense to do that though – I'm going with trusting Rivian Support on this one and not worrying about it.

Sounds like you at least got a test drive.
I love that this is your main takeaway from this post. I can't wait until this forum gets back to planning possible meetup locations in our new adventure vehicles.

I had the option to point out the flaws in his analogy & perpetuate the debate (which neither side can "win"), or post something funny...

I thought the response was both appropriate & highly entertaining.

More speculation caused by lack of transparency & communication...
Quite the opposite. Rivian has repeatedly told you something (“300+ miles”) and you’ve gone digging for a reason to believe it is false, manufacturing an information vacuum where there isn’t one.

There’s a reason companies release information very carefully. It’s because sharing bits and pieces too early causes rampant speculation and increases cycles of press and inquiries leading to dissatisfaction. Here you’re dissatisfied because someone found a number that Rivian didn’t even publish and you’re projecting meaning onto it!

This is exactly the reason disclosure is carefully metered and “transparency” is dangerous unless things are fully baked. Every single complaint about “lack of transparency” in this thread can be traced to Rivian sharing commitments and information early. You’re asking them to do more of the same thing you’re punishing them for doing.

Information will be shared when Rivian is confident that it is ready and that it will do more good than harm to share it (e.g., it’s timely, actionable, has no risk of change, their staff is trained, materials are up to date, etc.)

This stuff is hard. Listen to the folks who have launched products, run PR campaigns, managed disclosure, etc who are telling you it’s hard. The loudest enthusiasts always want everything now and it’s almost never the right call to cave to that pressure.

If you don’t trust Rivian to make these calls because of your insecurities in their timeline, you might be buying the wrong truck. You’re going to be putting a lot more trust in them when you buckle the seatbelts than you’re being asked to put in them now.
