Being in California, I'm surprised the OP hasn't seen hundreds of these already.
There's an Irvine HQ for Rivian and they have a bunch of camo-wrapped vehicles driving around all the time. Rivian has been pretty good with keeping things under wraps (pun intended). Could be a refresh, could be a mule (regular R1 with in-house quad motors) or a bunch of other things. Nobody really knows.
I see at least 1-2 of these a day living in my area. Not to mention 20+ Rivians a day.
