I'm assuming the first ones available will all be closer to $60K which is fine, though I'm in a lease for two more years anyways. Really hoping I'll need to decide between R2 and R3 when it comes time to make another swap.

After seeing the interior door handle "redesign" (JerryRigEverything's video today shows it), probably not buying at all.
Really??? You will make the buy decision based on interior door handle???

Apparently I'm not the only one:

Edit: Really didn't mean to derail this thread, but we already have two R1s so it's not like there aren't other advantages to not upgrading...

Not a great poll. It depends on the trim. $45k for the base is fine. $55 is not. $60 for the tri motor is great. $70 is not.

So I'm curious. What's your position on putting kids or adults in the third row of your R1S? Or actually in any SUV third row? No opening window or door option there at all. The same observation applies to all those two door cars we used to have, no one was getting out of the back of one of those easily at the best of times.

People tend to look at things in isolation with lack of context and also focus on issues, also without context, which is why we seem to have issues with the rear door emergency releases without apparently having concerns about what I've highlighted.

We've literally never used them, so any comparison to the second row (which we put a child in every day) is apples to oranges.

When our two kids were child seat age, we had XC90 and we did put both kids into the 3rd row. Having the axle and side curtain airbags made it safer in our minds (have no scientific proof).

I would think that someone will create an accessory to add a longer, maybe even glow in the dark pull tab to the back door release. With its position you could pull the cover and easily add an additional pull release without messing with the aesthetics.
If any laws pass that require well marked manual releases, it may come from Rivian.

The Launch Ed specs are so close to the Model Y Perf, I just don't see any chance price comes in less.

R2 Launch Ed $59,990 seems likely.
That's a good guess, especially given the price of the base model. This is $15k over the base and essentially the same as the iX3 and EX60.

We'll find out for sure in a month.

Which is why I said "good luck" as I believe that config isn't going to be a good seller which in turn means they will be hoping the more expensive trims will buoy Rivian. Asking $50K-$70K for a smaller 5-seat SUV with 400V charging and less range than competitors may not be the greatest seller either. It's going to be tricky to get this right and keep Rivian afloat.
Could not agree more. For this to be the vehicle for the masses and take Rivian mainstream, the pricing has just right. If the Launch Edition is even $54,900 before destination, taxes, options (paint, interior, wheels, etc.), and fees, then I don't think the R2 will be the success we all hoped it would be.

If the iX3 comes out at roughly $60k with 400 miles of range, charging of 10-80% in 21 minutes, and 0-60 in 4.7 seconds, I can't imagine paying the same price for an R2 Launch Edition given the expected specs. The R2 will be faster and have better off-road capabilities, and eventually the LiDAR autonomy advantage, but I don't think the masses care as much about those abilities.

You missed the fact that the iX3 is ass ugly and a shocking number of people care what their vehicle looks like.

Looks are subjective. I love the look of the R2, the iX3 not as much. But I don't think the iX3 is as ugly as the Model Y and that was the best selling car in the world at one point.

How much of that is because there was no legitimate competition for the Model Y for most of its existence? You can overcome looks if it is the only real option in its class?

That's not the case in 2026.
