I just discovered a nail in my tire. Noticed my tire pressure in might passenger front wheel slowly reducing to about 40psi over the course of a week. Refilled to 48psi then was down 3psi in 24 hours. Finally found the nail (pictured). My front tires were recently replaced by Rivian Service (due to low tread) and this one has probably less than 1,000 miles on it .

I've gotten nails before on previous vehicles and assume this is a simple patch job and the tire isn't ruined. Given Rivian service would probably tell me to wait 5 months for an appointment, I assume my only choice is America's Tire/Discount Tire because they're the only ones with the proper jack pucks? I assume it's not an issue that I didn't purchase the tire through them?

Does anyone want to really ruin my day and tell me something like "oh you can't patch EV tires due to X, Y or Z"?

Thanks!

Should be repairable...but...
I've had mixed results with a puncture there...
My experience is that this is very easily repairable, but some/many tire places will try and say it's not so they can sell you a new tire...
(If you do end up getting a new tire, suggest you have that one repaired and kept as a spare)
I would take it to Big Brand or Big O Tires and see what they say...

Most any tire shop can patch. You just need to remove the tire and take it. If you don’t have the jack kit or a puck, then yes, go to Discount Tire or Rivian SC.

There’s probably more to this frustration story than what’s been said.

Just goto discount tire or America tires, they will fix it for free
Yes, Discount Tire. They may or may not have jack pucks. Every Rivian owner should have a set of jack pucks, that work with Bottle Jacks, Floor Jacks and Commercial Post Lifts.

I think I'm going to offer a Discount to every post I see with a similar flat or nail/screw leak, when the owner doesn't own a set of our magnetic jack pucks.
  • Same Day Shipping
  • 2-3 Day Upgraded Delivery (all 50 States)
  • $ Discount (good enough for 2 Tacos at Jack in the Box ;))

I think you want America's Tire in Lost Angeles, they will probably repair it for free.

Maybe the folks over @Discount Tire can direct you to a convenient spot near you.

Side Note: Don't go to Discount Tire Centers, not the same. Recent thread about this.

You can go into an auto supply shop and buy a kit for around $15. It should take you about 15 minutes to do it yourself. 20 mins after watching a Youtube.
This is what I just did for the wifes car. I took it to a tire shop and they didn't even want to bother with it, even though it's well within the repair lane.

Just get one of the $20 plug kits that use an electric drill... super easy to do.

The patch plug system is the best way to repair. It also allows them to inspect the inside of the tire.... Important!... To make sure it's still structurally sound.

The puncture is kind of close to the non repairable area though but it's hard to tell from pictures. They will measure from the tread edge. I believe the industry standard is 1/2 an inch from the edge of the tread but some tire shops may want a full inch.

Another vote for Discount Tire/ America's tire for a free repair. I'm near the Glendora location and they have the pucks for Rivians.

This. Done one myself as well, on my previous car. Looking at this, seems you don't even need to unmount the tire.

I've carried and used these for 10+ years. They are not "intended" to be a permanent solution but, I've run several thousand miles on them after a repair with no problems.
