Long story, but really need wifi when we are out camping. First, does the hotspot stay on in camping mode? And second, anyone roughly know the range of the in vehicle wifi/hotspot (will it work very far outside of the vehicle, say in a travel trailer)? Thanks!

The hotspot seems to work only within a couple feet of the truck at best. I am interested in figuring out a gadget to extend the range. As of a week ago my hotspot isn’t working at all though.

Camp mode always on will definitely keep the hotspot on. As far as range I haven’t tested I know it works in a tent on the bed as far as your travel trailer it depends on how big and where in the trailer, maybe you could get a Wi-Fi repeater in the front of your trailer or something if the range isn’t quite there.

I came here with the exact same question. Glad camp mode keeps Wi-Fi going. I’m going to dig out an old apple airport to use as an extender. I don't see why that wouldn’t work.

Sounds like it varies from truck to truck. When we've had internet outages at my house, I've parked my truck in my driveway and sat in my office, which has windows facing the driveway, and used the hotspot without any range issues. I try to get it as close to the windows as possible, but still at least 20 feet.

Anyone using wifi range extenders? If so, what models? I've only used mesh networks at home so have never needed them before.

I ordered one today actually. Will update on how well it works or doesn't work.

I’ve used my travel router to extend the cars wifi and also extend my home wifi at times when I need to OTA.
Highly recommend this one and it accepts USB-C power!

Couldn't re-find this thread the other day. I bought a King KMW1000 range extender and it worked great during my testing. Signal strength was still good enough for full speed through the hotspot 100 feet away from the truck.
