Will this setup work

Hello all,
I’m not much of a wheel and tire guy. Like a lot of folks I’m thinking about switching from 21” to 20”. I had been planning on buying a setup for winter with studs. I’ve moved away from that as I really don’t need studs, we mostly get snow in the winter. I don’t really “off road” but I go to a few high cascade lakes where 4 wheel drive is needed. So my thinking now is since I’m leasing I’ll have to more than likely get another set of 21” tires before the lease is up. I’m leaning toward buyout at the end but who knows. Would like to save the 21” for the end of lease. Cost is a factor, the wheels made especially for Rivian are awesome but I need to stay under $275-300 a wheel. This is the setup I’m looking at from Tirerack I know the 18mm might be tight. Thanks for any help!

It'll work, but it isn't ideal. A +18mm offset was fine, when there wasn't anything else available, but or a few hundred more you can purchase a proper spec'd Rivian wheel, it doesn't make sense.

I'm running 20x8s with +19 and LOVING IT so much I'm about to sell my OEM staple 20s. Zero rubbing on both 275/60R20s I have, AS and AT.

$70/TPMS?! That's ludicrous. I have the Smart Sensor programmer if you want to buy a set of 4 for $88 total and clone your existing sensors, I loan it out, just pay for shipping.

Please do some research on specs (offset, forged/cast, bolt pattern) but some folks like to go with this MSW option with +48mm offset that honestly looks like my OEM wheels that I have.

You can even choose a different finish.

I just don't know if this is a forged wheel or not.

The OEM 20" wheels are forged and a big reason why I went with them.

I bought 1EV 20” wheels (500 each) and put 275/60 on them. These are within .1” diameter of the 21” tire. The offset is a little different, moved the tire out 5/16 of an inch, puts the side wall even with the plastic trim. Meets factory specs otherwise.

An update, I iordered the MSW 52’s and Nitto Nomad grapplers. Tire rack emailed me that they only had 4 of the gunmetal gray and it would be October before they would have a 4th so I changed to the Alphaequipt Intel in bronze. The TPMS sensors were expensive but they mounted and balanced before shipping them. Which would have cost me $150 if I sourced otherwise and then had to have them mounted and balanced locally. They are going to arrive on Thursday which is my day off so I’ll be able to get them on in a couple days. Woohoo!

Tire rack emailed me that they only had 4 of the gunmetal gray and it would be October before they would have a 4th so I changed to the Alphaequipt Intel in bronze. They are going to arrive on Thursday which is my day off so I’ll be able to get them on in a couple days. Woohoo!

I have to say so far impressed with Tire Racks customer service. I placed my original order late Tuesday night, TR contacted me Wednesday morning that they only had 3 of the wheels I chose and would not have the 4th until October. They did have the chosen wheel in a gloss black which I did not want so I inquired about my 2nd choice the Alphaequipt Intels in Bronze. They were about $60 more per wheel. When I applied for credit I only requested $150 over what I was spending so I asked about bumping the credit limit up, and they marked the wheels down to get it under my limit. They also said that the wheels and tires would be mounted(including TPMS sensors), balanced, and shipped to me arriving by Friday. I got a shipping notice last night and the wheels and tires are out for delivery as of this morning(shipped from Sparks, NV and I’m in The Dalles, Or.) I’m off tomorrow and Friday so I’ll have plenty of time to slap them on and do some testing. So far a great experience.

Update: The wheels and tires arrived Wednesday evening. It was suppose to be a 100+ degree day Thursday so my plan was to get up early and change over to the new wheels and tires. Of course so did not get outside until afternoon and it was in high 90’s. I had gathered all my tools and figured I’d do 2 wheels then take a break and cool down. Got my Jack and Jack puck set, my new Jack is a 6ton with built in Jack stand. No problems getting it jacked up. Used my 36” 1/2” drive ratcheting breaker bar to break lugs loose(before the tire was totally off ground), got the lugs and factory wheel off. Got new wheel lined up and on the studs. Hand tightened the new lugs provided with wheels I then discovered that my 1/2” 22mm socket was too thick to work with new lugs/wheels. Thankfully tire rack provided a socket with the new lugs, but it was for a 3/8” drive. Went searching for an adapter with no luck. The provided socket did have a 7/8” hex head so I was able to get it as tight as I could. All told first wheel took me about 40 minutes. Drenched in sweat I took a 30 minute break. Went out to do the next wheel, a rear. I jacked the truck up as high as Jack would go, 21” with 3” thick puck. But I didn’t think the tire was off the ground so I went and found some 4x4’s to put Jack on. Started jacking and again got to full height of Jack wheel still would not turn. It was about that moment I remembered rear wheels have brake. Looked at bottom of tire, was over 3” off ground. Doh! Got that wheel done in about 30 minutes. The proces was speeding up! Took another break and had to run to grocery store for a planned pickup. Once home I was able to do the other side front and back in about 30 mins with no issues. Gave the new wheels/tires a test by running to ACE for 1/2 to 3/8 so I could properly torque the lugs. Then went on a 40 mile test drive. Tires are quiet ride feels the same. Range also seems to be slightly less than the 21” but I did not do a scientific test. Really happy with the look. This was also first time I really looked at truck in highest suspension. At first I thought the wheels and tires are too small, then dropped it ti the lowest and was like ok, that looks normal.

Everything good so far? I assume no rubbing since offset is pretty close to stock? I have been keeping my eye on the MSWs but I may need new tires before October and these seem to be a good option.

In case anyone comes across this thread when searching for the Alphaequipt Intels, Tire Rack advised in an email that the max load rating is 2650 which is a bit more than the MSWs. Now to decide which one I like the look of more. I really wish I could get the MSWs in bronze as I prefer that design, but bronze on Forest is really eye catching.

How come you chose the Nomad Grapplers? I need a 20s wheelset and the best balance tire for winter performance (British Columbia Canada) and range (monthly trips back to US). I saw these on the list...do you know what your range efficiency is with them? >2.2?

That setup looks pretty cool. Thinking about doing something similar. How has it been working for you so far in terms of efficiency and range? Any regrets?

Also, do you know if these Alphaequit wheels are cast or forged?
