I have a Gen 1 R1T, and had been thinking about springing for the Cali Dune. For those of you that have "upgraded," do you regret it? Is there a noticeable difference in the R1T platform?

Depends on what’s important to you. To me, no. Advancements in features is not that great of a leap. Gen 1 software is more stable. Plus, my gen 1 quad is paid off. I don’t want a car payment. Not in this economy.

There probably has been five of these threads. After owning two gen 1 R1T QM I upgraded to the Tri. I don't regret it at all. I travel quite a bit (35-40,000 miles annually) and the 10-15 percent improved efficiency is worth it to me. I was on 20s and went to the range wheels so range improvement was staggering. Plus wind noise isn't ridiculous & vehicle is just better built. LOTS fewer SC trips too. But to each his own. They aren't cheap.

Sorry to reply with a pregunta/question. What are you looking to improve, gain vs the G1 R1x, might be an ask of yourself?

What has been altered is well documented, i.e. better cameras, faster computing, different lights, more adas options, torque, speed and other.

I don't own a Gen 2, drove them before I bought my Gen 1. Drove them again recently. The new trucks are better. I think they are about 10, maybe 15% better. How much is that worth to you? What gains are you looking for?

For me, the additional cost wasn't worth the vastly greater amount of money. Others may see it differently. I may revisit this when the G2 quad finally comes out.

Most likely, I'll wait for vastly more significant upgrades. I am pretty content with my G1 truck now that it is pretty well dialed in. To each their own on how they view the new platform.

Disclaimer, I have not upgraded mine, but I have a T with the meridian system and my wife’s S arrived soon after they transition to their in house audio system. I would not change mine until they improve their audio to something similar to the meridian system or better.

i keep trying to justify an upgrade. But i cannot find a good reason to spend an extra $30k and it seems like a never-ending loop of upgrading. I just bought a comma ai harness to make up for the sub-par driver+

I have a paid off 22 R1T and I ultimately it really comes down to money. I don't feel like they've improved the vehicle enough to entertain the idea purely on capabilities.

If the lease offers are really good then maybe it makes sense to put that cash somewhere. I only paid in cash since the interest rate was too high at the time I bought. I do put on about 15K miles per year so that has to get factored in.

My long term plan is to move to the R2 or Scout.

I keep my vehicles for a long time. I'm 3 years into a Launch Edition R1T, and it still seems almost brand-new. I expect it to last another 10 years at a MINIMUM.

New technology comes along every few months. If you chase the latest and the greatest, you will always be buying something new. That's a very profligate way to live. But you do you - nothing wrong with my 2022 R1T so I'm going to drive it until it won't drive no more.

For us, it is not worth upgrading from a 23 G1 and paying a bunch more money. I don’t want to give up the quad motor setup. My vehicle has been relatively trouble free. I’ve also added things to it, which don’t translate to the next generation. Plus, I need to make sure there’s enough in the budget for the R2, R3x and the Scout. So, no upgraded R1 at this time.

I don’t regret trading up to a Gen 2 at all.

Had an early Gen 1 that was quickly approaching warranty mileage limits. As much as I loved the truck, I had to ask if this was something that I would be comfortable keeping for an extended period beyond warranty before upgrading. Truth is that while the shell and general feel of the truck is very similar between Gen 1 and Gen 2, there are tremendous changes underneath. With contracts with initial suppliers sunset in favor of their own supplies and design with Gen 2, I worried about long term availability of parts and serviceability, especially since I was really using it as intended/designed and assumed I would be wearing out and breaking things. Also concerned with ability to keep up with the updates, seeing that I was already starting to miss out on updates the gen 2 was getting.

Upon getting the gen 2, it simply seems more refined and just better. Im more confident that this will be the iteration I can hold onto for several years beyond warranty
