Would you still buy your Rivian today?

First post, sorry for the doozy question. I'm sure I'll get some passionate responses.

Owned a Model S since 2014 and while it's been incredibly reliable even at 154,000 miles the time is coming to replace it. I love EV's, my experience despite crazy Elon mode has been mostly positive. Definitely more positive than my ICE cars in the past. So, I'm looking at Rivian as an option.

I'm used to the fact that EV's are still new technology, getting service can be a challenge (In VA, the auto dealers association continues to fight the direct sales /service model in the courts but there's a Rivian SC 15 minutes from my house), and I know all about how long it takes to charge. I've taken my family from VA to Disney twice, done Atlanta a few times, etc.

My wife swears she'd never see me in a pickup truck, but I'm keeping options open so the car may be R1T or R1S. I'm still sorting that out.

Won't go back to Tesla and Lucid seems like a risky option considering it's almost 60% owned by the Saudi PIF. Curious about Scout, too.

For people who own a Rivian, would you buy your car again?
If yes, what (if any) changes would you make?
If no, why?

Yep 100%. We got ours in July 2022 and have 60,000 miles on it including several long road trips. I didn't realize how much I liked it until I couldn't drive it...it needed some body work awhile back so I was back to our Subaru. I honestly couldn't swing the price now, but we're looking forward to getting the R2. I can't think of any changes I would make - but I'm the kind of guy who tends to take things as they are.

YES, Coming up on 4yrs in October. 10/21 delivery, 65K miles. R1T. Great ride.
FYI my son just traded in his 10/21 delivery R1T on a Gen 2 R1S. loved his R1T but now wanted R1S for the additional interior space for their 18mo old son. (profile pic, mine is gray his is blue R1T)

100% yes. Coming up on 3 years this Dec, a few minor issues here and there but nothing notable. Denver service center has been great in my experience. I’ve owned trucks all my life, Chevy, Ford and Dodge and I will never own one of them again. Rivian is so much more capable, comfortable and fun to drive. It was my first EV so I had some range anxiety out of the gate but a trip from Colorado to Tennessee to take my daughter to school squashed that quickly. My wife will have an R2 eventually.

2 year ownership at 23K miles of the Adventure R1S. Love the car and would buy it again for sure. I actually use it for occasional off roading and not just speed bumps in LA! )) The charging nightmares are in the past at least in CA, it is elegant yet has superior performance and versatile as the Utility in SUV is very present. Service has been the weak point but every month, it should get better. I miss the full size spare and Car Play ( oh oh,,watch out!!)) but otherwise, a great package.

Absolutely. Loved my T so much that I bought an S to go with it.
The T was my first electric car, so it took a few months for me to get used to driving an electric car and everything that comes with (range anxiety, charging, etc) but that wasnt vehicle specific issues.

Absolutely! I've had my 2025 R1S for ~ 1 yr now, and no regrets what so ever. Wouldn't change a thing. My biggest gripe/headache is I can't open the rear hatch while it's parked in the garage because it hits the garage door.... hahaha .

This coming holiday season will be 2 years of ownership of my dual motor, large pack R1T. The overall ownership experience is positive. I struggled for a year with a problematic driver assistance features. It took the SC a few attempts to finally resolve the issues.

The truck is our go-to family vehicle. Its quiet, powerful and the most capable/safe vehicle I have ever experienced.

The Rivian brand isn't for everyone. The guys at work tease me about how fancy the truck is. LOL

I hope my Mrs will bring home the R2 in a couple years.

Absolutely would buy mine again. It's been 2 1/2 years with my R1T and I hope we can add an R2 to the family soon. My R1 puts a smile on my face every morning. That new car excitement usually wears off in 6 months or so, but Rivian is different.

The only concern I would have for you is if there was only a poor quality service center near your home. West Sacramento has been great for me, and I prefer this Rivian service to the BMW or Volkswagen service that I deal with on my other EVs. Rivian is working to expand and improve their service centers, but the R2 rollout is going to be a big challenge.

No simply because I'd rather try something else I'm not one who buys the same thing again and again, maybe if it gets a full refresh inside and out but highly unlikely for a new company.

Although I really like my Gen 1 R1T, I doubt I would get another Rivian. Four things that are disappointing:

1) Lack of 800V charging
2) Poor ADAS system
3) Mediocre navigation, even with the latest Google version
4) No satellite radio (a must in remote areas of AZ and CA)

I also have a Hummer EV and my wife drives our Mach E, both of which I prefer for road tripping. I have taken each of my EVs on several road trips along the same or similar routes, so have valid comparisons.

Also the service time waits are too long. I have not had that many issues with mine, but when I do, the wait times are just frustrating.

Would buy again in a heartbeat. Not without flaws, but what an awesome car. Plus monthly-ish updates that keep improving the vehicle. Would buy again. Would recommend to a friend.

On my second Rivian. Gen 1 was great, gen 2 has 28 days in service over 4 months of ownership. I would not currently buy another one until they show clear improvements in their quality control - both coming out of the factory and in update deployment. Have a reservation for a Scout which will likely be my next vehicle.
