I am on the list and I don't care the slightest bit about going off road. You're sorely mistaken if you think it's the off road capability or ground clearance that most people are shopping for. That's just a niche market and will always remain that way. Rivian wants to capture Model Y sales so they can be a profitable company. I think it was a mistake not going 800V or even better, cutting prices by another 3-4k because the EX60 and iX3 are definitely tempting me because for just a little bit more you can get 20 kwh more battery and a 800V architecture as well as features like a dimming sunroof and carplay (I need my youtube music) and you don't have to explain what your car is, everyone knows BMW and Volvo. Plus dealers mean you can get discounts unlike with Rivian or Tesla making the price gap even less.
The BMW price gap is at least $10k. For those who go on 600-mile-plus road trips more than a few times each year and do not hunt, fish, camp, hike, etc., and prefer established Euro badging--maybe spending an extra $10k makes sense.

"You're sorely mistaken if you think it's the off road capability or ground clearance that most people are shopping for." Hmmm, if you say so.

Subaru had made their entire business on ground clearance and good AWD. People all across the northern half of the country love the extra ground clearance and AWD in the snow and woods.

Go for it the BMW or the Volvo. That's great to have choice, but my point still stands, that the only reason you are shopping those vehicles is due to limited choices. Or do you believe 4Runner buyers considered a Volvo or BMW gas car first? What about Subaru owners? They shopping BMWs?

Where is this option and what is the cost?
Unless you're an employee you didn't order anything and don't have any confirmation....

That's a very fair point in this discussion.

Has anyone done the "upload your current lease" workflow yet?

I was wondering what that looked like. If I'm understanding the prompt, it appears they're looking at your maturity date / outstanding payments for scheduling your order availability.

I was thinking about uploading the Jeep lease, it's done this Sep, might give us some breathing room as we're still not 100% sure what we want to do (the iX lease is through Apr '27).
You upload it and it goes "thanks", basically. No feedback at all.

Hahaha, yeah, I figured it might at best case extract some text, or worst, drop into a work queue for some grunts to transcribe :D but I guess maybe you'll get some feedback at some point?

Tesla doesn't give any significant amount of discounts but Rivian certainly does.

I got my 2023 Dual Large Performance R1T for $562/mo lease with just $1k down plus taxes/fees/registration up front back in 9/2024 with rebates applied, clearance discounts, and other additional discounts they were offering at that time.

Me as well, snow tires are required where I am
It's just a smart decision to offer it. They have a huge customer base that likes to go to the mountains in the winter. That rating is the difference between chain carry requirements or not.

It is true that actual off road ability is a minority (for the wider population, although. Vocal group on the forum) need or desire in this segment. The appearance of off road ability is a different matter.

Pretty much this. People want the APPEARANCE of a vehicle looking off-roadish. It’s easy money for the manufacturers. Throw on some off-road tires, give it extra inch of ground clearance, and throw on some extra plastic cladding. Then charge a few thousand dollars extra and soccer moms eat that 💩 up 😂

That’s how we get the CRV Trailsport and Palisade SXT. I’d argue that Rivian owners are probably more predisposed to off-roading than most, but would still account for an overwhelming minority of all Rivian owners.

We have zero need for offroad ability, but find R2 appealing for (among many other things) what I guess I'd call edge case resilience. This spring we've had an above-average number of heavy storms with enough water flow in the streets to discourage driving during the downpour and then make parking challenging for days afterwards in low-lying areas with ponded standing water. I will feel a lot better about driving R2 around on those days than our current pavement-only cars.

Exactly. Our Wrangler Rubicon looks amazing parked at Publix. Sometimes there's a LOT of sand in the parking lot!

What's dumb is that this ends up making the vehicle objectively worse at its main function of transport as the AT tires end up being noisier and less fuel efficient.

But what is funny is that it is truly all about the looks. I eat it up too. The offroad stuff just adds a certain flair missing on most modern car design and I think that is what appeals to people. Not necessarily what it can do. Another appeal I find to offroad trims or variants is that due to them being marketed this way, this usually means more durable materials and more protection underneath the vehicle. This helps with longevity and is a nice added bonus.

Marketing will never be honest with us so we can expect to continue to see absurd commercials of a CRV going off the beaten path but in reality I think people like the more unique looks, added protection and durability. IMO this market is always a good place to play in and always wide open for customers. I don't think it is meant strictly for offroaders. You want your favorite vehicle but more durable and higher clearance? Here you go. Heck, even Porsche did it with the 911 Dakar.

Now this is one "offroad adjacent" feature we dig on, living in an area with a lot of flooding issues (2 blocks from the ocean, 2 blocks the other way to the ICW).
