For the average person that will use the R1T as a daily driver and for the weekend adventure, which is the right choice-dual or quad motor? Is it worth the extra $6,000 to have that extra power and off-road capability?

I loved that the quad motor was standard, but now I'm not sure if I really need it. Granted, $6,000 seems like a pretty good deal to get two more motors. Also to note is that the Hummer EV has a 2 or 3 motor option and the 3 motor package is a $10k increase and the Lightning only offers a 2 motor option.

If it was available today I'd say dual for sure, you'll get more range from the weight reduction and if you aren't offroading the quad seems kinda like overkill

At this point, dual motor feels like another completely made up, theoretical Rivian product that may or may not ever exist, and if it does will probably be delayed 2-3 years.

I am sure it will not be a big change for a daily driver but:
The bigger question is what is the next downgrade to keep your purchase price from going thru the roof

Not at all worth the price difference. If Rivian didn't push people's delivery date out for switching options, they probably wouldn't have burned as much good will on the pricing increase. 600 hp still makes the truck faster than 99% of the other vehicles on the road.

I haven't seen the details of the dual motor. Is it effectively half the horsepower/torque with no torque-vectoring capabilities?

For a pavement-queen daily-driver, honestly, it should be fine. Even at half the power it's plenty (honestly more than enough) for normal commuting. It just won't be that "extra" that most of us probably wanted.

It's 600 hp. Still very powerful. My Polestar 2 has 400 hp dual motor in the same configuration. It's more fun to drive on pavement than the Hummer is, because the driving dynamics of the vehicle are that much better.

My biggest concern is whether the drive modes in the dual motor behave differently. Rivian has also touted additional drive modes in the future, though I can't imagine what they would be. It would not surprise me if there are drive modes that are exclusive to a quad motor vehicle, however.

I am concerned that the two-motor version will not have sufficient torque to efficiently tow my 7,000# airstream travel trailer. My current Diesel pick-up has right at 1,000 ft/lbs of torque.

Dual motor is an entirely different motor than the one currently used in the quad motor setup, one that is being designed and manufactured in house. Will that motor actually exist in 2024 when manufacture of said vehicles is said to begin? Maybe, but I would not bet on it at this point. Shit, we don't even know the final details of the production R1S or have an actual picture of limestone.

Dual motor would be fine but I'd wait until more specs are released. Also, there is that whole wait until 2024 thing to worry about.

I'd assume there will be one but who knows how significant or insignificant, but the dual motor definitely will be enough for 80% of people I'm sure.

As of now, Rivian is only quoting 260+ miles for standard pack, 320+ miles for large pack, and 400+ miles for max pack with the dual motor. The efficiency gains seem like they will be minimal.

What dual motor? It's vapor at this point. Horsepower? Range? They don't have a clue. And delivery. Shit, they can't even deliver the truck they have now. And if you think the price won't go up dramatically if 2 to 3 more years (if they can deliver it by then)...
