A very welcome improvement.

All jokes aside, I think that the team that is working on day to day improvements are trying their best. I'm sure they and the Customer Support team (who had NO input into the crazy pricing increase) are also suffering the consequences of yesterday's nuke. Hopefully they will not be deterred and work to bring the best (albeit now more expensive) vehicle to market. This addition does show that they are still working towards that and hopefully the bean counters (aka money grabbers) don't look at this as future opportunity to extract even MORE $$$ from customers

I've never had 360 view, so I have no context as to where it's useful. When I walk to my car at home I basically have to do a 270 degree walk around to get into the driver's side, and always behind the car.

What am i missing where I'd need a 360 view while in reverse (esp if I have cross traffic alerting and a back up camera). What makes this a "must have" for you?
Tight parking lots like we have here in LA. Toys and what not hanging out under the wheels. Also to keep from curb rashing the wheels when parallel parking. I use it surprisingly often on my weekender that has it. I really miss it in my i3 daily driver and really didn't want to buy another vehicle without it.

Legit question. In the S1, Rivian stated they anticipated an additional $10k (or it could have been $12k, i can't remember) in revenue, post-purchase from each driver. That suggests they are planning on potentially charging a ton for each "additional" software-enabled option after the free membership expires. I am worried about this, especially after the $25k increase in price. Their comms has to do better or they are going to get whiplash on the market until they can hit sustainable production volumes and revenue. I haven't gotten any clear answer on what is included in membership and honestly I don't think the CS agents have been told either.
I think (hope) yesterday's price increase is how they are going to get the extra revenue. :)

If they incurred increased expenses of $10K and added $20K to the price...BAM they just met one of their IPO stated goals.

As a software leader, I suspect this is more around not wanting to over-promise and under-deliver in areas where they had solution ambiguity. It's actually not very common to be aggressive with discussing software roadmaps externally at tech companies because it massively reduces your flexibility in terms of problem spaces you attempt to solve and it is an easy way to over extend your engineering teams and embarrass your company publicly (see also, "FSD Is going to be feature complete by end of year! for like 7 consecutive years"). That said, with the OTHER comms problems Rivian clearly has I understand the pile-on frustration.
Product Management in tech here too.

Except, along with getting rear A/C controls to work, some of this is pretty basic stuff they've had three years to work on. I understand they aren't buying off-the-shelf OEM driven software/hardware solutions, but I'd think some of these basics would have been solved by now.

Some problems are hard, but getting the backup camera, Rear AC controls, windows/doors locks, etc, are comparatively easy to things like sentry mode, AV systems, and not to mention autopilot!

Yeah, I don't know the complexity of doing the camera stitching required for the 360 degree view. I am sure there is some at least semi-custom firmware (maybe even hardware?) involved. These cars multiplex a lot more cameras simultaneously than most systems I've worked on personally. That all said, there was a lot of rough edges on even the very basic camera views when I test drove the R1T back in December. I'm almost wondering if they had to change out suppliers for key parts of the system late in the game and it caused them to have to re-implement a bunch of things.

Without getting into deep details, this type of last minute churn certainly happened on some of the consumer devices I worked on in a prior role with a very large, well known, tech company.

Aside from some dirt on the lens, what's the problem with these images that would suggest a need for new cameras?

I agree with some of this statement, but the Bird's Eye View is something that Tesla owners have been requesting for years and they still don't have it. If it was easy they would have done this 5+ years ago.

Only in reverse? Really? If true, that is about 25% as useful as it could be when off-roading.
