As someone with a Mar-Apr delivery window, I was fully prepared to cancel my purchase had they not reversed course. Kudos to those that pulled the actual trigger early to send the needed message. I was prepared to say "no way" when my actual delivery was imminent, but it didn't get that far. All things considered, I still feel worse off today than last week.
My trust in the company is worse, but the value of my pre-order is likely better. To me, the former is more important.
I do expect some transparent messaging regarding the C-suite decision-making, because I'm not convinced this type of mistake won't happen again. A cool idea plus smart engineers still need someone with a high degree of emotional intelligence to guide the company. Not yet sure we have that.

You can just fold the seats though, they fold flat from what I saw. That's how I'm gonna drive mine most of the time. ?‍♂
Folding flat is only part of the problem. If the interior narrows near the gate, as frequently occurs in third-row seat vehicles, then it becomes a lot less useful to me, since my loads tend to be wide at the base. Admittedly, it's probably not a common issue that would stop many people.

Not to stop your rant but you know the R1T has seats 5, 2 rows and tons of lockable weathertight storage right?
Sure, I know that. I considered a R1T but I wanted enclosed space in the main cabin. A pickup format just doesn't always work for what I want to do - I usually want environmental control (e.g. if I'm moving animals).

Yea I was going too fast and missed that part of your post. Understandable. For me having the luxury of the extra seats was nice for times we'll be traveling with family and won't be needing 2 cars otherwise I also always had 5 seater suvs.

I totally get that. I don't have that to consider so, for me, that extra seat is just extra weight. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I must say, I have read the letter from RJ.... A few times....

While I'm not saying it isn't genuine, it very well could be. But am I the only one that feels like it's more of a lip service?

My source says they had in the area of 12000 cancellations in 24 hours. And let's say the average of all those orders was in the area $80,000. Now my math may be off, but 80000x12000=$960 million dollars. I think some one saw the numbers, had a little poo ? come out... And here we are...

The letter feels more like this to me...

Just had another thought.
This week was the first announcement of a bunch of future configurations including the small pack and dual motors. Had this been communicated better it could have been big news with a nice stock bump. Instead it's a giant steaming turd-burger.

I mean. It would be lip service if they didn't do anything. But they did. So it isn't lip service.

The activity on this forum has been nuts over the past couple of days. I’m sure someone has already mentioned this, but the one extremely small positive out of all of this is I wanted the front tow hooks but didn’t want the extra underbody protection. Purely from an aesthetic perspective as this will be an on pavement only vehicle for us. Glad those are now included for free with the Launch Edition!

How much do you think that extra seat weighs? 100lbs? In a vehicle that weighs 7000lbs?

As I read in another commentary, there’s a lot of new dog owners that named their new puppy “Rivian” several months ago that just breathed a huge sigh of relief.
I named my pup Rivian 2 years ago. Pretty sure she’s too old to learn a new name. Whew.
