ChargePoint Flex. Rear knockout hardwired.

The holster and hook already mounted was from a previous setup for my polestar that wasn’t using a wall mount EVSE.

Damn that looks sexy and clean.

I'm new to EVs...outdoor chargers wouldn't be recommended in the Northeast or anywhere we have tough winters, correct?

You can check what temperatures a product is rated for. In this case ChargePoint says “For charging stations set to 16-48 A, the range is -40 ̊F to 122 ̊F (-40 ̊C to 50 ̊C). For charging stations set to 50 A, the range is -40 ̊ to 113 ̊F (-40 to 45 ̊C).”

My climate has mild winters.

50’ basement run of 4 AWG (which despite the instruction fits fine into the Rivian charger terminals). This will let me run 85A if I want to upgrade later without having to pull new wire.

Very nice! If I mount my charger outdoors I plan on something like this, but I think I might make a piece of PVC board backer to put it on and take a router to the edges to dress it up.

I'm surprised at how many people have gone with the plug in installation instead of the hardwired. IMO the hardest part of the installation is running the wire etc and it is almost as easy to replace a hardwire unit as it is a plug in and you get the extra amps.

Yea, I don't think you would have an issue with it outdoors even in pretty extreme weather. Most of them seem to be pretty rugged. If you were really seeing like a fire hose of salt water at it, crazy buried snow, and other extremes you could always put it in a little utility box outside like above. I have seen some people on the Amazon reviews (specifically for the Wall box brand) mount it in the woods of their vacation home on a pressure treated post and put a little overhang on top to keep the elements off a bit.

This is a noob question for sure, but is there an issue with having the box inside the garage but running the cable under the door to charge outside? I'm concerned about the weight of my garage door damaging the charging cable over time as it will come down on top of it as the door closes... Any thoughts?
My issue is that for now, the truck will be parked outside and will need to be charged. In the future, I plan to reclaim the garage as a place to park an expensive asset instead of store garbage... :)
Really depends on your garage door and EVSE. Our garage doors have a quite thick rubber "bumper" at the end, and don't close so tight to the ground that the actual metal door gets that close. And our EVSE wires are flexible enough that they have no problem going under the door, and the door closing. I do know someone whose garage doors have less "bumper", and their EVSE wire is thicker/less flexible, so if they try to close their garage door on their cord, the garage door senses an obstruction and rises again.

As for which is preferred? We put our EVSEs immediately inside the garage specifically so that we could charge a vehicle in the driveway or in the garage.

Here's my Rivian charger wired up in my garage at home putting out 48amps - really hope that they update the firmware on this sometime soon as the "smart" capabilities are pretty generic right now...

and here's our Grizzl-e charger that I installed at our cottage putting out 40amps - really love this one as it's no frills but built like a tank. Picked it up on Amazon for $460 after reading / watching a lot of reviews. Even though the Rivian charger is weather resistant, it feels like a toy compared to this one... (and yes, I need to clean the side of the house!) ;)

Nice! Do you feel like wifi is a big miss on the Grizzl-e, or does the Rivian app offer enough functionality for it to be irrelevant?

What would you use the wifi for? I have never understood this. All EVs I have seen (including the Rivian) have on-vehicle charge scheduling so I don't know what wifi would allow beyond that

So you can manage it at the EVSE level rather than the vehicle level. It applies your rules for all vehicles rather than being vehicle-specific. I do this with my Wallboxes. It also allows me to tweak them remotely from anywhere. For instance, if I know I'm going to be using a lot of power in the house I can quickly knock the amperage down from an app on my phone rather than needing to go out to the truck and change the amperage on the screen.
