I actually took my 4Runner to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon last week for this exact reason. My R1T sat at home in SLC. While it was not showing on the various EV charging apps, the National Park Service had multiple Level 2 chargers I could have used. I would have been fine, but the long stretches from Page to the South Rim and back (plus some trails I wanted to do) gave me enough pause to not want to chance it.It's not just range anxiety, but the core positioning of Rivian requires more than 290 mile range on AT tires. EVs can't carry extra gas, and there is not going to be that last gas station before heading into a remote area.
Like Wrangler, many Rivian buyers will in reality only be aspirational remote travelers. But to be legitimate in this market segment an EV needs long range and a winch.
