A transformer wouldn't work, transformers are AC devices. What is needed is a DC-DC converter, a much. more complicated but still inexpensive device.
I’m sorry but you are mistaken here. The reason a transformer won’t work isnt because it is an AC device, but because it is a robot in disguise.

I guess you could say these are pretty heavy.

(The tow driver was the best and took his time, there was just no way to get the bed fully pulled back up without lifting the front for a second.

Sheer force of will.

Just skated the rear wheels. Front wheels rolled freely. Then winched it up with control arm straps.

Sucks for Rivian. That can’t be cheap. Few bad packs probably equals a whole truck lost. Hopefully they are rare.
Kind of jumping the gun assuming the whole pack is bad? I haven’t heard of that happening yet.

There is literally a post above mine saying he had a HV failure and they had to replace the whole pack.

You are most likely correct In regards to a complete HV failure. That probably does not happen. However, the amount of logistics and time invested by Rivian Is most likely not a trivial amount when it comes to HV pack repair/refurb.

I think these packs are not serviced by the service centers (with the exception of a few components). Which is why any type of HV pack failure is most likely a full pack replacement. They probably go back to manufacture origin or some special center for research on why it failed and then destruction*** (see my last section in this post). The packs are sealed under an injected flame resistant foam that probably precludes repair So if you have a HV battery problem, what’s probably happening is Rivian is sourcing a new pack (if I’m wrong they might be able to source a new module of one of the nine modules) and shipping yours off. Any Rivian techs in here feel free to correct me.

Monroe live has a good sneak peak inside:

Jerryrig attempts to disassemble one of the nine modules here:

*** Jerry states that when a module fails they just grind up the entire module and separate the metals to reuse later.

Good start to second week with the truck. Currently about 825 miles on it:

Currently waiting on a tow.

They are gonna have fun getting it out of my garage, won’t even go into neutral.
Just take the WD-40 you bought for the tonneau cover and spray it all over your garage floor.

I'm in your boat! Left the Denver RSC after it went into turtle mode on the highway previously. "All good to go."

Twenty minutes later I am parked in a Toyota dealership and it won't go into Drive or Park.

Hard reset does nothing.

Multiple error messages started popping up unit it completely dies in the closest parking slot to the building.

Three hours later the tow truck and mobile service arrived.

Left on a flatbed and Rivian set me up with a rental.

Twenty percent of the 600 miles on the truck are from the service center,

There were a lot of curious Toyota customers and sales people admiring the truck...until they saw it being towed away.

Averaging one component failure message a week over four weeks, to include suspension and motor malfunctions. Service center and engineering weren't able to replicate or figure it out. But, they assured me it was safe to drive!

I guess that was true...for twenty minutes.

Good luck with your repair!

Minor update from service center:

It is some sort of issue with the high voltage battery, they are waiting on engineering to determine if they need to replace the entire pack or if some sort of module inside the pack can be replaced.

--

While it's in the shop I got them to add a few items to the service ticket:

1) Fix the tailgate not opening when pressed (and subsequent "service tailgate" message on the DIS)
2) Scoot the hood over about 5-10mm towards driver side (slightly misaligned and rubs the trim on the passenger side with enough pressure to actually move the fender when opeining/closing.)
3) The Front Suspension Bolt Recall
4) The "tocking" sound investigate/note/grease the bolt/whatever.
5) Note the bedcover on file for eventual fix or abandonment by Rivian.

--

So I expect it will be several days (weeks maybe?) before I get any more updates/movement on the truck.

They offered Uber credits but I declined as I have other cars to drive.

--

Also -- I ordered my lightning! (Antimatter Blue Lariat w/ Extended Pack) -- Should receive it sometime between spring/fall of 23.

If the Rivian keeps giving me issues after this I'll be jumping ship to that Lightning -- otherwise if it becomes more reliable after the initial quirks are worked -- I'll probably refuse delivery of the lightning.

--

Fingers crossed! (More updates soon.)

The potential problem is clearance with the garage door. I know our Rivian will just fit under our garage door frame. Definitely not on skates/dollies though.
put it on the dollies then de-flat the tires and gain a couple inches

Update from service today. They believe that there is a problem with the inverter (high Voltage to Low Voltage) on the rear drive unit. A new one should arrive in Denver in a week or so.

I hope this is the fix for all of the other software/hardware issues I've had.

Going on one week in the shop now -- not as much as a peep from Rivian unless I call them and go through the song and dance of reaching out to the service center. Using the elaborate song and dance I was able to get the update on Wednesday that I posted above, but nothing more.

To make matters worse my C8 has a cracked wheel now -- so I'm out of personal vehicles.

I'm glad I ordered the Lightning. At least I can drive to a dealership and talk directly with technicians if something goes wrong. This service model sucks.

Update: Finally heard back from Rivian today -- it took some escalation to get their service center to finally reach out (I don't understand why.).

So the truck was placed on a "parts hold" as they ordered an entire new HV battery pack. Apparently the battery came in today and the technician told me it was about a four-to-six hour job to replace the whole pack.

According to him I should have the truck back hopefully by mid-to-end of week.

No explanation of what actually happened to the existing pack. I guess it's technically not relevant for me to know though. ?‍♂
