My car is in Atlanta service center due to a warning popped up on the dashboard. The service center guy initially said that it's normal and restarting the system usually fixes. It did fix when it happened, but I didn't want to take a chance, so I made an appointment and took it to the shop.

After 2 days being in the service, I was hoping to pick up the car today. The service manager calls me today and said they spotted the liquid under the area, and they can't honor the warranty, and it has to be out of my pocket......

I bought this car used, so I didn't know if the previous owner did or what.. So I told him sure.. if it's my fault, then I will pay for it.

I called my wife and asked if she ever spilled any liquid. and she told me that she dropped a little bit of coke few weeks ago, but she cleaned it asap.

She spilled the coke right in the area in the middle where you put stuffs.. (between driver and passenger). There is actually a tray there too...

I didn't give much thought, but she asked me.... if spilling this much liquid actually voids the warranty for EV???????

We spilled coffee, coke, and etc in the many different cars in the past, and they didn't cause any damage.
Plus, this happened over 4 weeks ago.. Why is it the root cause of the issue that they can't honor the warranty?

I tried to contact the service manager to discuss, but obviously, I don't have his direct number, and I can't get him on the phone after 1+ hours of attempt...

I need to go pick up the car today, and I have to pay $1650 + tax...

Is this normal???????????????

If they can directly correlate the spilled coke to the damage that needed repair then, sure, that makes sense. However, I can't think of any way a spilled coke on the floor could cause warning messages. What part failed or was replaced? What was the message? Did you approve a work order? They would have a hard time convincing me that it was my fault based on what you posted.

Suspending warning, front sensor warning, and etc.. They said they need to replace ASIM?

I approved the work order because it was $0 at the beginning, and they are saying that since they spotted any liquor near or on top of the electrical component, they can't honor the warranty and I have to pay out of my pocket....

If you haven’t approved any work order with a charge I don’t think they can force you to pay for repairs. I don’t see how some spilled liquid could cause a suspension warning though. Something still doesn’t add up here

Again, I didn't know better as I bought the car used.. So I don't know if it was the previous owner or not.. But he tells me that I can't drive as is without the repair.. :D

and I wanted to go back and talk to him, and he's not reachable...

I tried to contact m guide and ask about the warranty, but he's on paternity leave until Jan. 2023...

Those interior electronics aren't protected from liquid ingress. If they were damaged then yes, you will have to pay for it.

Are we talking about the same thing??? The spill is not on the interior electronics.. It was spilled on the center console where you put your stuffs. Again, there is a tray there too.

There was no direct spill on the interior electronics..

Right. But are those components directly under the center console? Still sounds fishy to me.

Yea this is pretty crazy. Is it possible previous owner had a much larger spill on the interior? I just spilled some coffee in my Tesla, would my battery warranty be void lol nonsense.

If it was JUST in the tray, how could they have spotted it under the tray? There are electronics under the seat and the center console. Exactly what ones, where they are positioned, and what parts are at risk of damage from a spill where you spilled, I can't answer that.

This is not an "EV" thing.

Tray is not 100% waterpoof???? I don't know.. Maybe a bit of spill went between the tray?

She tells me that it was a small amount (left over coke.... so 1/3 or 1/4 maybe) spilled on tray and she cleaned it right away....
