Got the email too about my spare tire for my R1S. They're maintaining existing pricing so that works for me.

New email, indicating existing pricing will still be available, just through the gear shop (presumably when you are logged in):

Hi,
We’re writing to inform you about an update we’re making to how our Adventure Gear is purchased. Certain products will no longer be available in the configurator and will need to be purchased separately in the Gear Shop.

Due to this change, the following items have been removed from your order and the total price of your vehicle has been adjusted in your Account:

All-Weather Floor Mats
Cargo Crossbars
Field Kit
Off-Road Recovery Kit
Compact Spare Tire

We are updating the Gear Shop now. In early 2023, prices in the Gear Shop will be adjusted to match your current pricing. We will notify you when that’s complete. At this time, financing will be unavailable for items purchased in the Gear Shop. We are exploring ways to re-introduce the ability to finance Adventure Gear in the future. When you take delivery of your R1S, your Adventure Gear will ship separately.

We will share more updates early next year. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please reach out. We’re here to help.
Just got the same email... looks like we'll all get that today.

Interesting. That reads like they’ve run into issues with accessories and people financing vehicles, but I also haven’t read any complaints from customers related to issues.

There must be a reason, but financing seems like an odd one.

So how is the pricing going to work. When I log into the gear shop, the cross bars are $525, but on my build they used to be $450 (I think). So that is not lining up right now. Also, no spare tires in the gear shop yet, let's see what the 20" spare wheel/tire is going to be, it was $800 with my build.

That's a possibility, but poor planning and execution. An SKU change to a customer configuration due to inventory revisions should be transparent to the end user's order, and not screw Rivian co-workers by triggering thousands of guide contacts with customers asking "WTF".
this Is what happens when SAP and salesforce are combined ???
disrupt all the things including customer confidence!

Rivian’s motto should be “Features & specifications subject to change without notice Forever”

it’s more likely so they can streamline vehicle delivery. If accessories are separate, then delivery won’t get hamstrung by some accessory that can readily be installed later.

Does anyone have their pre accessory removal price and post? Was the total price reduced by the new accessories cost or original. If original then they have screwed up again. Doubly, because most are not available in the gear shop. No field kit, no floor mats, no spare.

This is not the worst update but as someone who added the spare last week, I hope that decision didn't delay getting matched when they were going to separate the "accessory" from the vehicle anyways.

I got the email and don't mind. The fact is, these accessories are holding up vehicle deliveries in some cases and that's bad for RIVN.

I’m one month from my delivery window end (supposedly) and get this nice little kick in the teeth. Not as bad as no powered tonneau, but still.

Well, they can shove the "adventure Gear" for all I care, but the sudden deletion of the full size 20" spare tire is a pretty major issue for a vehicle that is almost impossible to find wheels for...

Are we ever going to get any good news from this company?

Stock is in the $24 range... again.... ?

Is anyone talking about how by removing these options/gear from the configurator, now you have to pay cash for them in the gear shop? Previously, when they could be added to the vehicle configurator, they were considered options and included as part of your overall vehicle amount and loan.

It does make a pretty significant financial difference if you want a spare tire and cross bars. Coming out of pocket an additional like $2k day one for those options when previously they were part of the vehicle purchase and paid over the lifetime of your auto loan.

I have no issues with this direction. If I can order 2 sets of cross bars in the shop for a discount might even be better for me. However, I’d expect more gear purchased overall at the time the truck is ordered. Like I ordered a bike rack I don’t really need. If the pricing had better margins, could be good for them to keep in the config.

This is interesting since my guide said they are getting better at including the spare tire at delivery. Guess by better she meant that they match your configuration to not include a spare so they don't have to have a spare at delivery. My config didn't get changed but that might be because I have a VIN and the truck it built.

It also has sales tax implications. In NJ EVs don't pay sales tax. I think that when these were bought with the car as options, they would also not be taxed. Buying them separate will certainly have sales tax applied.

Not to financially shame people or anything but if you can't shell out $2k cash for accessories maybe you shouldn't buy an 80k truck.
