Looks like Rivian is taking lessons from John Deere. May be they will put a chip in wheels that prevents the truck from moving if aftermarket wheels are detected?
... and Deere learned that trick from HP with their printer cartridges.

R1S on order
Rivian CS just called. I submitted a ticket to get my truck set up for my new wheels and tires. Going from 21's to aftermarket 20's with stock size tires (275/65R20.) They said they won't calibrate aftermarket wheels.

Beautiful truck! I wish there was an opposite kneel mode, where it goes into high or highest when parked ?

This is the best looking Aftermarket wheel and tire combo I have seen. Is that "High" ride height? or Off-Road?
Off Road - Highest

I guess I'm kind of derailing this thread, so I'll apologize for that. But, this is a very interesting topic.

First off, really like the look of Sprout's truck, including the wheels.

So, if Sprout can't get his truck calibrated for the rims and tires he has chosen, what are the consequences? Speedometer readings? Tire pressure readings?

CommodoreAmiga states that there are separate configurations for the various official Rivian wheels. I gather that re-calibrating can only take place at a service centre, not through the in-vehicle software. If I have two sets of wheels, say 20" AT for winter/off-road and 21" for paved roads, does this mean every time I switch between these wheels, I have to book into a service centre to have them change the calibration setting?

If true, that's annoying. Is that a setup common to all electric vehicles?
The speedometer is actually more accurate according to my GPS. The 275/65R20's are 34" versus the 275/55R21's at 33".
My main concern is range estimates. I have a 140 mile commute. 70 to and from, and each has been taking WELL over 100 miles of range. The weight is one factor. My setup is about 110 pounds each. The stock Rivian 21's are 79 pounds. The aggressive MT tread is another factor. And the current weather in my neck of the woods is COLD.

Size difference is only -0.3% - are you sure they even have different algorithms for the different wheels?

I went from 275/55R21 (33") to 275/65R20 (34"). SO, it's actually more like 3%. BUT it made the speedometer more accurate.

At this time, yes.
Initially the person I talked to thought they could do a mobile service call. That is until they realized they were aftermarket wheels.

I wonder if they would be willing to give you the factory 20" wheel calibration. It'd probably be a closer match than the 21" cal.

Bummer. Those wheels look so good.

This is why I went with the 275/60R20s (from the stocks 21s). If nothing else, at least my speedo will still be pretty accurate.

As CommodoreAmiga mentioned, Yes, you have to book an appt and have everything recalibrated every time you change wheels. I have this exact problem with 20" Darks for winter and 22" Darks for summer. The SC did mention on my last visit that they have heard that Rivian intends to make this a user setting in the GUI. Absolutely no reason not to...just have an option for each wheel choice and let the owner change as needed...truck will calibrate to the selected setting and the pictures can change accordingly. Too easy...

The truck looks great and it sucks that Rivian is being unreasonable. This approach makes less sense for an “adventure vehicle” vs a sedan. They should know that buyers of trucks & adventure vehicles like to change wheels & tires to suit their adventures. This is especially true when they live in the snow & the OEM tires suck in snow.

I’m planning to change my wheels & tires and not going to bother asking Rivian for recalibration or permission.
