Since the latest update I went from 1-2% a day to an egregious 4-6%. Sure, it's cold, but gear guard and everything is off. I am running the Homeassistant integration to measure it though. I wonder if that's causing new pathological behavior. Will test.

I will say, I wish it just kept Bluetooth off while asleep and then woke up when you push in the handles, like the Model S does. It's a far better experience (doesn't unlock/lock when you walk past) and it's easier on standby power. There are clearly buttons under the handles so I assume there is some deeper issue or they just haven't written the code yet.

Someone suggested using the Trip function for this, which I think is the best way to compare results. I'm resetting "Trip A" when I park in the garage (maintains 50-55F) and then next time I check, I can see directly the energy usage. This one shown averages to 1.7KWh usage per day.

I agree. I don't understand why we are talking percentages when you can just get the kWh lost overnight with one of the trip meters (after the latest upgrade which is now accurate)
I can see the percentage or range go up sometimes as the weather warms up!

During the day, GG on, 9.5 hrs and 75-80 degrees…I see no range loss…maybe 1-2 mile avg range loss overnight since the latest update (temps in 60s at night )….GG is off, Fob in faraday bag, and BT is off on my phone and app is closed.

I believe that madgrey and fbitz777 have the right idea. Based on their input, I've changed my methodology.

Previously I reported:

After Update: 5 nights, 84 total hours, 1% total loss, 0 total miles estimated range loss
Temperatures in the 50's.

The 0 miles lost is because I had one overnight of 0 loss, 2 nights where I gained a mile and 2 nights where I lost a mile. That might mean that the losses are less significant than the measurement error.

Latest report, now using the trip meter, and with temperatures in the 40's instead of 50's

2 Full Days, 48hours, 3.5KWh used
Gearguard off, truck locked, fob isolated from truck.
I changed to full consecutive days, because I suspect the residual heat after a drive might reduce vampire loss while the battery cools down.

I'll repeat my test when temperatures are warmer. I'm not upset about this level of loss, but I hope Rivian continues to work to improve in this area. In every other way, I really love the truck!

I lost 7% within 15 hours. Yes it's cold [28, 36]F and I had GG on, but that's unacceptable. First time I've considered selling.
Again I do not trust the percentage indicator overnight
I too see 5percent overnight but that somehow recovers after I drive and battery warms up. Check kWh lost instead. Should be around 1-2 kWh max when it’s cold

yeah, i find it ridiculous that the vehicle has to be babied in order to not lose crazy amount of battery life: turn GG off, put in shipping mode, dont check the app, proximity off... WTF.

Rivian needs to figure this out.

My 6 year old tesla still loses 1-2 percent a day easily...no fix has ever been contemplated by Tesla.

Tesla and Rivian have the same philosophy which is to use tons of computers to monitor and baby the battery (BMS) constantly

My Bolts and Ioniq5s can sit for a month with no noticeable vampire drain.

My 2021 Tesla Model 3 barely loses charge overnight. Only 1-2% in a week, so I think Tesla eventually did figure something out, just hoping it wasn't a hardware fix and we're all screwed.

Strange. I pulled a chart from Stats app for Tesla and it shows about 4-5 miles a day phantom drain which is another name for vampire

Not feeling awesome about vampire load at the moment. Left my R1T plugged into my JuiceBox for 150 hours (6 days and 6 hours) while on vacation. The JuiceBox recorded delivering 19.15 kWh. It was at home in the garage with Gear Guard off and I had the app on my phone off completely the entire time. So temps likely in the high 40s to low 50s and no waking the truck.

That works out 3.06 kWh per day. 1.12 MWh/year. That feels like a lot.

As you can see in the chart at the bottom of the image below, lots of short bursts of charging.

I'll just share this here.

Due to an accident I have been laid up and unable to drive since January so my R1T just sits in the driveway. I decided to track vampire drain for every day while it sat. Sorry that I don't have values in kWh. My goal has been to disturb the truck as little as possible so I have just been grabbing the values from the app.

Most of the possible causes for drain have been discussed at length around here so I won't spend too much time on my observations. Needless to say, there are many things that keep these trucks awake. My kitchen is right next to the driveway and I'm pretty sure I was waking the truck up as I moved about the house. I tried different things to get the loss down as much as possible. At one point I thought I had it licked but as you can see, the most recent software update just made it worse. I do have a theory about that however. It's clear that the key fob has bluetooth and since they are rolling out proximity fob locking in the next update I am pretty sure that having the fob in the kitchen near the truck was causing an issue.

I actually messaged Wassym about the vehicle not sleeping when plugged in and waiting for a scheduled charge to start. This is what he wrote back:

“we have some upcoming optimizations for this mode (scheduled charge). it will be part of future OTAs. will keep you posted.”

Currently, seems like when plugged in, the vehicle is less likely to sleep and does more battery maintaining and other diagnostics since it can use grid power to do these tasks rather than drain the battery?

It seems like Rivian is aware the draw is excessive and they’re working on improving it?

Have you done any additional testing of vampire loss when unplugged?

I saved the following comment from a different thread about an owner having sleep fix an issue that resetting did not. He said this was the procedure Rivian service said to induce sleep:

“if we had 30 minutes to attempt a sleep cycle. We said yes, so we took the keys away from the truck, turned off bluetooth on our iPhones, I put the key fob in a faraday cage bag.”

One suggestion - take the battery out of your key fob. That might help with the incessant vehicle scanning. Rivian service once told me if the FOB is within 100 feet of the vehicle that the vehicle will still try to ping it. I found that hard to believe, but taking the battery out should certainly stop unwanted scanning and pinging.

Sorry to hear about your injury. Hope you’re back to normal soon and again driving your Rivian!
