I was driving my truck home from picking it up earlier today and went over a small bump and started hearing this smacking sound. I pulled off the road and looked underneath, this is what I saw... I put in a service ticket and they are working on a repair plan. Thoughts?

perhaps someone at the factory forgot to tighten the bolts on that underbody panel… it’s rare but there is at least one other post having to do with a panel coming loose

Looks like another case of too few fasteners on the plastic under trays? I think @Count Orlok may have had something similar?

EDIT: When I installed my RMaxx sliders, I noticed a couple missing screws...

There’s a piece still attached, being held by some screw toward the middle of the truck

I wouldn't go through any deep water, but that's about it.
Disagree slightly: I'd get under the vehicle and remove whatever panel/s and screws are loose. No sense causing more damage when that panel finally rips off at highways, or you god forbid hit something that just catches it in the road and tears something....

At one point m choice for next appt in the mid-atlantic was 6 weeks out...can't see driving it that way for 6 weeks, but that's just me.

I made an appointment for May 3rd. I tightened what’s left and it appears stable.

LOL those panels aren't water tight. Continue to drive normally.
No they aren't water tight, but getting water flowing at high speed directly on the components instead of slow leaks certainly is a different story. Do what you want with yours, take your panels off if you want, but I see wires down there and I don't want to directly expose them to things I don't have to.

Agree about making sure to remove anything loose, but it should be fine to drive. No need to cause more damage to the truck OR someone unfortunate behind you if something else sheers off.

I agree with the others...I would recommend just removing the panel and avoid driving through bodies of water. If it comes loose again and rips off, it could damage the remaining mounting points and cause a hazard to anyone behind you.

Also, I assume this R1T doesn't have the Reinforced Underbody Panel (i.e. this is the standard R1T configuration)?
