I know it's frustrating to spend this kind of money on a vehicle and have what seems like abnormal noises.

Is there anything wrong with the AC or is it just the noise/vibration?

My 23 R1T does this on occasion and it's at its loudest when it's preconditioning for a charger. I would say the noise is characteristic of the truck....however that doesn't mean Rivian shouldn't consider some ways to mitigate the NVH transmission into the passenger compartment.

I would be worried about them digging into my HVAC system and creating more issues.

I took in my R1T to the Austin Service Center for a different noise issue, but during the drive with the technician, I mentioned to him that the AC compressor get's loud. I don't really notice it while driving but it's annoyingly loud when I get out. He also told me that's normal, or at least normal for Rivians. I guess I can't complain though, since the R1S loaner they gave me is even louder than my R1T and I can hear it while driving. While I generally don't care what people think, I can't help but feel a bit embarrassed when I pull up to a place and the AC compressor sounds like it's about to blow up.

I also don't buy the whole "it's an EV, so there's no engine noise to drown it out" excuse. I've been in a F-150 Lightning and that thing was blowing cold air while making little to no noise.

I just received a voicemail that they are still looking into my issues and should have an answer tomorrow. Sure hope it is not "this is normal" again. I'll keep everyone posted.

I don’t discount your frustration but I wanted to share it’s not across the board they went above and beyond to fix my alignment which took 4 attempts and while there’s the obvious negative that they couldn’t fix it the first time….each subsequent visit every single person echoed the same sentiment, we want to make it right, we agree it’s not right. And they did, so I’m sorry your experience was the polar opposite as mine. Just wanted to note they’re not like that with every situation

I don’t discount your frustration but I wanted to share it’s not across the board they went above and beyond to fix my alignment which took 4 attempts and while there’s the obvious negative that they couldn’t fix it the first time….each subsequent visit every single person echoed the same sentiment, we want to make it right, we agree it’s not right. Yep it absolutely sucks to return 4 times. But they weren’t dismissive of the problem. And I went into buying this truck completely expecting everyone to be in learning mode. If another year goes by and they’re still taking that many tries to fix things I think it’s more appropriate to find them as “poor”. So while I absolutely agree if this was a major manufacturer I’d be 10000% pissed off taking it in this many times for a freaking alignment…I’m allowing a bit more patience in this scenario.

And believe me I typically do not have patience for this stuff so I think in any other situation I’d be very upset. So I guess in this instance it’s a positive for me to have this outlook as compared to my normal outlook of rage when do things not fixed right the first time

I'm glad you had a good experience and they finally fixed your issue. My point of frustration is they refuse to acknowledge anything is wrong with my vehicle. I've contacted corporate and sent them my videos. I should know more today.

And my experience with the Dallas Service Center has actually be great. Justin and the crew have always been really helpful and pleasant. Though not every issue gets fixed on the first try, I had to take my R1T in twice for a noisy triangle window... but from what I've read here and on Reddit, a lot of issues can take a couple of tries to resolve. I accept it as a learning process and continue to enjoy the truck and the company for what they are.
This. I agree that you should get that noise fixed to your satisfaction. But I don't think that makes the Dallas Service Center a joke. They're a bunch of folks just trying to do their job. I hope you keep at it and get to a resolution. I just hope you also give them a break. I hope empathy flows both ways.
