I understand but what would you do if you had the issue and RIvian kept saying "vehicle is operating as designed" as their response? I've had my R1S in twice for this issue. Both times they stated working as designed. I told them to keep it until fixed. They called me back and threatened to start charging me storage fees if I didn't come get the vehicle.
If they are not acknowledging the issue with proof you've provided along with others, you may want to try local news channel. You are in Texas, you know how some folks feel about EVs here :swear:

I haven't noticed this on mine yet but will do more testing.

Also i'm becoming a Rivian fanboy, own some stock as well.

Dealing with this issue myself. For those commenting that they don’t have these issues, what’s your VIN range and which state do you live in? I’m VIN 79xx. We are experiencing some crazy heat right now in Texas and this AC compressor or whatever it is sounds like it’s about to blow up! You can feel the vibrations in the steering and floor. Plus the dash even has a rattle.

Do not go to CNBC with this story. Shorts will have a field day with the stock.

I can already imagine the short and distort stories if this hits CNBC.

I think it bears mentioning that while having this sound during regular A/C usage isn’t normal, there are times where the very loud A/C is pretty typical when cooling the battery and it isn’t limited to Rivian. Our Model X did the same thing in hot weather when charging and my R1T does it when pre-conditioning the battery in hot weather.

The fix here might be software related, not a hardware change, but at the same time it’s odd that the problem seems related to the R1S as far as the sound happening with normal a/c usage.

Haven't noticed the things you are speaking of with my R1S. Hopefully they have a solve soon for your issues.

At least you can't hear to tok or the loud motors. :p

On a more serious note this R1S AC issue is making all other issues seem rather trivial.

I mentioned this in another thread about AC noise - Rivian should take a few of these noisy vehicles and evacuate and weigh the amount of refrigerant, and verify against design spec. Overcharge of refrigerant can cause compressor buzzing. With refrigeration, more refrigerant is not better and does not lead to increased cooling capacity. Too much refrigerant is as bad as too little refrigerant.

Can OP mention what room temperature was during the video?
Also what was the AC setting (temperature, auto/manual, fan speed, etc)? You talked in the video but it is hard to hear.

Try to test my R1S AC but SoCal has been around 70s - 80s lately.

Seriously. I think when they said launch edition, they meant for you to switch on the AC first before you read the little badge on the dash.

I can launch this thing into Gulfstream 7 territory no problem. Let me fire up my AC errrr I mean jet engines first while you buckle up.

I can't speak to the guy on YouTube. For me the weather has to be above 85 degrees. 90 - 100 this thing will really become a launch edition. I haven't had the pleasure to test triple digit temperatures.

I rather return it then be a guinea pig.

Yeah, last time during service, since I complained about AC noise (different from compressor noise), they adjusted refrigerant pressure. So,, it seems they do know this trick, at least in costa mesa SC

If I could, I would consider it also.

That's me. It was a little above 70 outside. I have to set the ac to low(all the way down) to get it to spin that fast. Auto on the fan and the fan is not an issue. I have vin 10,xxx. It rarely gets that loud if my temp is set to 68. I also have not parked in full sun very much. I'm sure it will spin up faster when it reaches 100 here and I have it parked in the sun for a while. It made the loud noise when we picked it up at the Dallas location. They said the R1S just does that. It stopped after about a minute when we were there.
I love the vehicle and I am going to wait for Rivian to come up with a fix. Or get a new compressor if this one flies apart.

Mine also does this. Normal or not, they need to find a way to insulate/dampen it. It gets so obtrusive that you feel it throughout the cabin.

There ya go... I'm a bit surprised and disappointed that other Rivian SCs have not at least tried this approach. If this is indeed the root cause for all of these complaints, it's a relatively quick and easy fix for Rivian, as compared to compressor modification or replacement.

It could be something as simple as miscalibrated refrigerant charging equipment, or training, on the production line. I actually hope that is what's causing this issue.
