Great News! I'm happy we are approaching a common plug standard in North America. It will take some time, but it's going the right direction!

MAKE IT PLUG AND CHARGE
When do we get that functionality for EA and Tesla? Would be so nice to link your accounts in the Rivian App and just plug in - that's another huge perk of a Tesla.

Ford already does this with EA. And they are going to do it with Tesla, when the adapter comes out next year.

I wonder how they will handle cooling the adaptor? How does Tesla cool its cables? At 250kwh for a 400Volt system, keeping the transmission hardware and cables cool will be a challenge.

Are you sure someone actually reset it? If someone reset it, shouldn't your Rivian have just started charging again? Or does it require an unplug/replug event for it to consider starting again after an external "failure"?

Or maybe it was just being because of this:
Tesla Destination Chargers are tricky little buggers. They do not automatically start charging again after a reset. You must unplug, wait a few moments for your Rivian to acknowledge the disconnect, and then plug in again to start charging.

I am sure this individual reset my charger, as I watched him do it from my motel window.

Since you seem convinced that this was somehow due to my lack of understanding how these chargers work:

1. Used the exact same charger in the exact same location in October 2022 while heading down to South Lake Tahoe. I was the only one charging and it turned out to be flawless, charging to 100% SOC. I had asked permission to do so; no one else was charging: I left our room # on a sheet of paper I placed in plain sight on the dashboard.
2. I had called ahead two days prior to ensure the Tesla Destination Chargers were functional. They were not, but the motel manager told me that the Tesla Tech was coming out that same day. The Tech did come, and fixed whatever was not working for this particular network of 4 chargers. Per the manager. he came back the next day to verify the fix had worked.
3. We showed up two days later and I was the first vehicle to plug in, and everything was fine. Tis time I was set to 80% SOC as I knew there was another functional EA charger less than 100 miles away if needed.
4. The angry Tesla fellow showed up and was clearly upset that I was on "his" network of chargers. For whatever reason, he was not getting the charging rate he was expecting, and immediately assumed I was the cause. He began resetting the other three chargers until he found one he liked. He said a few choice words to me, as he continued going back and forth between his room and his Tesla. We went to dinner, right on the property, and after I went back to make sure we were still charging.
5 When I walked back to my R1T after dinner, the charging was OK, but slow, which is normal for a Tesla Destination Charger. This was when the other vehicles showed up, making this guy even more upset. I had picked up 9 miles at this point in time. The Tesa guy was still making assumptions that made no sense, and the other vehicles owners just did their best just to ignore him.
6. I went back to my room and told my wife what was going on. She suggested that I go back down to my R1T just to make sure the Tesla guy wasn't going to do something stupid to our Rivian. I chose not to do so, but just looked out the window. Yep, there he was, resetting everyone's Tesla Destination Charger again, including the one we were using. I left things alone at that point and went to bed.
7. The next morning all of the other charging vehicles were gone. My charger was showing green, but the R1T charging port was showing red, indicating that charging had stopped, and I would need to unplug, then plug back in. I did this, just to prove to myself the system was working as advertised. It was. I unplugged for the last time and we left for the Anderson, CA Safeway EA chargers, about 71 miles away. It was on my list of known, functional EA chargers. We took a restroom break and bought a few snacks while we charged. I charged high enough to be able to make it all the way to the West Sacramento RAN location at REI. We stopped again at the Willows, CA Walmart EA chargers just to see if they were up as well and another quick restroom break. We did not charge, but headed on to the West Sacramento RAN at REI.

Hopefully, the deal with Tesla with Ford and Rivian require them to move the charge port to the front right (or rear left) otherwise they will waste charging space.

GM sliverado showed theirs in the rear left (like Tesla).

Now if Tesla could support 800V, then GM is all set.

So far there are no Superchargers capable of more than 500V. Both GM and Stellantis have 800V trucks. Tesla needs to specify what there V4 and future chargers will support. We also need some idea about how much an adapter, without cooling, is going to throttle the charge rate. Magic dock is supposedly 350A.

Screw that.

Tesla should not be a monopoly of charge networks. Build out RAN, make a decent option of it.
They already are, no matter how many RAN rivian built

Because all of us existing owners now have a truck that is worth less…. Thanks Rivian.
The difference in plugs is not driving the depreciation over the next 2 years.
The vehicles will lose $10,000 - $15,000 per year. When the new trucks and suv with NACS are available in 2025. They will start at probably $79,900 for the stripped down explore model with vinyl dash, dual motor , 21” road wheels and small battery pack.

Adventure models with quad motors and wood dash will be more than we paid today also have to account for inflation the next two years.

So confused by this... do you mean that the adapter that we carry in our cars/trucks will have 20' of liquid-cooled cable attached, and that we also have to plug it in to a 110V outlet somewhere? And 18 AWG seems tiny. Was this a joke post?
Special wire rated for 1000° C. Don't touch it.

That is the entire amount of the whole charger NEVI Program and not what Tesla got or gets. States have to give out the money as they applied for it and got accepted.
You're right, that's the total not the tesla portion. To date, terms had received 6.7 billion, but that goes back quite far
