Now if Tesla could support 800V, then GM is all set.

So far there are no Superchargers capable of more than 500V. Both GM and Stellantis have 800V trucks. Tesla needs to specify what there V4 and future chargers will support. We also need some idea about how much an adapter, without cooling, is going to throttle the charge rate. Magic dock is supposedly 350A.
The adapter could be designed to utilize the cooling built into the cable and NACS plug to cool the adapter itself. This isn't an insurmountable challenge.

Hey, that's a great idea. They should add two liquid exchange ports to the bottom of the NACS plug on the adapter.

You wouldn't want to have the fluid path travel through the adapter directly otherwise there are opportunities for leaking and residual coolant. What you'd want is for the fluid path to travel close to the connection points so that it can pull heat through the adapter housing while keeping the fluid path contained within the fixed part of the cable and plug.

I have said RAN was a waste of money from the beginning. Makes no sense to be in power distribution business...
But it makes sense for Tesla? If done right, there will be positive cash flow over the years. And I would hope that Rivian will concentrate their future efforts to install chargers in "adventure" sites.

Too late. Already been implemented. Open source, and all.

Even if that were true, that wouldn't be applicable to an adapter and would require updating all the cables/plugs on all the superchargers out there. :)

This I great news. It's time to rip the bandage off and get to one standard for all and Tesla's is better. It's really good for Tesla and good for the manufacturers.

The only ones who will lose are the 3rd party charger companies who need to update their chargers with dual plugs and/or eventually convert them to the Tesla standard. (and maybe some Tesla buyers who will complain about the lack of chargers)

Tesla is going to need to update those cables anyway to make them longer. Or maybe they will just screw over the current CCS cars in typical Elon fashion.

So how will this physically work for us with the existing trucks? Will be able to buy an adapter that can handle a decent current?
Yup. Rivian sent out an email this morning that said they will build a Tesla to CCS adapter for us old dogs with CCS ports.

Who knows, but adding built in cooling to the DC ports on a CCS plug is going to impact all the native NACS cars too. It would have to be on the adapter side.

You go to the 'dealer' lot and there are two R1Ts. One has a NACS port and one has a CCS port and both are the same cost, which one do you buy if all else is equal?

It's not complicated... its all about perceived convenience or obsolescence
In your scenario they are priced the same, so one isn’t worth more.

Even if someone buys the NACS Rivian first, the CCS will be sold to the next guy.

Good point. Probably won’t happen then. I’m thinking CCS cars will be limited to 150kw at superchargers.
