Felt weird going for inspection. One guy asked if I was confused. Another guy asked if it was a cybertruck. Hadn’t heard of Rivian.

The Service manager of a local Discount Tire (when I went there to get my spare tire mounted on a RAM wheel) simply didn't believe that Rivian was Rivian not a subsidiary of some major manufacturer. He kept asking me "yeah, but who makes Rivian?" lol... It wasn't even his his system back in Jan, so he listed it as a RAM :giggle:

If someone asks me if it's a Cybertruck it will take ALL of my energy to control myself and not start ranting and raving and then crying at the thought :swear:

TX requires annual inspection make sure lights work, blinkers, etc
Florida used to have vehicle inspection but did away with it about 30 years ago. It was a total rip-off.

I think they are looking to get rid of it. But hasn't happened yet.

Inspections required in MA and NY as far as I know. Seems a bit of a waste for EVs but reasonable for ICEs.

Here in New Hampshire all vehicles (including EVs) are required to undergo a state-mandated inspection at the initial point of sale, and annually thereafter at the dealership or at a state-approved service center. Because I picked up my R1T in Boston, it did not have the necessary NH state inspection certification, so I had to find a place to complete the inspection. When I dropped it off I had to show them how to find the odometer, which showed just 140 miles. It was a weird and slightly unsettling experience, given how completely ignorant the service guys were of Rivian. In fact after about 5 minutes they had to admit that they didn't know "how to start the engine".

I'm curious as to why you feel that way? We have inspection in Pennsylvania and the vast majority of things they inspect for fuction and integrity - lights, tires, brakes, suspension - apply equally to EV or ICE. The only thing that would not apply here is emissions insepction, and that's been a separate fee forever.

As a note, the Rivian service center (at least in Chelsea, MA) does not perform State Inspections anyhow.....so even a MA resident (like me) will pick up, and have 7 days according to State law to obtain an inspection sticker...

I have to take mine for initial inspection. I use a small independent I have known for years. I talked to the mechanic while the Rivian was on order, he said he wants to see it and would be happy to inspect it, but I have to help him, lol. The first inspection should be a simple "lick and stick".
