In theory you could go as low as 113 for a rating. Looking at the door sticker the rear axle carries the most weight of the GVWR at 4960 for the R1S and 113 is 2535 which covers the rear axle and still is over 10k for the vehicle with a GVWR of 8532

I think it only covers that weight at max PSI. But I think the max PSI is about the same as the recommended PSI.

It should be noted that in another thread someone took a picture of the 22" tires showing a load index of 116. So, all 3 sizes of tire have a load index of 116. It seems that's what Rivian wanted. I too would like to use some 113 tires eventually, but I'm glad I don't need to decide right now.

I just bought the current Defender 275/60's at Costco. After waiting a LONG time for them install the new Defenders, they discovered the 60's had an insufficient weight rating. The 65's are ok but substantially more expensive. Maybe I'll just leave the AT's on through winter when the Defender II's will be available. Not many winter options available with the necessary weight rating either. Hoping the Ice-X will have a similar update.

Like the AS+3, it's a 115 load index. The big corporate places won't do it, but your local mom&pop shops will no problem. I had fun yesterday running around asking places with 5 AS+3 loaded in the bed, got lucky on my second try.

I'll let you know when mine blow out and we can call this 115 experiment an utter failure. Until then...

Defender LTX M/S2 tires are available now in smaller sizes. I'll call Monday to see if there's a chance for an earlier delivery.

Someone hurry up and try these! I may hold onto the AS3+ I just bought for the wife's R1S coming in spring.

Interestingly the 275/65/r20 now appears gone from the tire rack website. Wonder if they are making this size?

Apparently the current defenders LTX in 275/60/20 are heavier construction (and more expensive) tire thus the higher weight rating. I waited while one shop double checked with Michelin on the S2 availability and got confirmation that Oct 2023 is still the date. Right in time for winter. I wonder now if there will be an updated winter tire. Only tire I could find is one made for studs.

the current defenders are a 115 load rating vs the S2 which will be 116 to match the load rating of current Rivian spec tires. Neither 275/60r20 is very expensive relative to other less common sizes, such as the OEM 275/65r20

Isn't just a regular LTX? The new tire is Defender LTX M/S2! I really hope that Defender LTX M/S2 will have 116 load rating in 275/60/R20. That's going to be a bomb!

looks like there’s conflicting info out there on whether it’ll be the 60 or 65 for the 20”. Too bad Michelins site doesn’t show 20 yet.

The pro bicycle racing circuit can only race on bikes and equipment that are for sale to the general public. Imagine being able to buy a race ready F1 car. The technology is insane. So, yeah, it’s pretty cool.
