Too complex to use while driving, or parking.

Let's say you need to drive 8 tenths of a mile past a directed point, you look at your dash and see no odometer. A simple thing of the past, glance and see the OD and you could follow directions. Now you need to reach way over and find the Odometer, and it is not obvious or easy. So, you pull over and "Go fish". I ask you now, as you read this, can you even think the screen taps sequence and do so sitting at your computer? let alone while driving safely?
How about some numbers that stay on the driver's screen unless you pull over and turn them off?

Now, another old thing that was easy, turn off the vehicle and the AC stopped, the radio stopped, everything stopped. No need to search to see what is on and turn it off. PS, don't forget the little dots next to the seats for the AC, and notice if the radio is on but the volume down below the ambient noise so you can see it's on.
I look at the screen and see the dimmed words and icons that are always there and wonder if they are off or on. As well what pages do I need to search to see if something is running.
My points are just that it used to be easier to control simple things on a dashboard. To make matters worse, the power draw could be a problem if you were away from the car a long time.

By the way, I can't find the "Dos" to stop the kneeling and rising of my R1T every time I walk by it while at a friends house as well the locks and such. He asks, "What is your truck doing?" I reply, it's a smart truck, it's getting it's exercise.

I guess if I was geocaching in my truck I would care, but can't remember the last time I cared or focused on a tenth of a mile for going somewhere.
Sorry that it's an issue for you.
Edit: I should say I'm not opposed to the odometer being on the driver screen, but I won't necessarily find value in it.

Put it in park and exit your vehicle and those things will turn off. You may still hear some noises briefly but they'll stop shortly.
When you re-enter everything is how you left it. This might seem weird when you just grab something out of the car, but it will turn right back off.

You make an interesting point about the odometer visibility. I used to do rallies where there is a driver and a spotter with written directions and driving lengths. Navigating that without an odometer that reads in tenths and easily visible would be challenging.

As for the rest it would be nice to have a few buttons for things like the HVAC vs the aesthetic design choice of clean lines. Rivian follows Tesla a bit too much on some things. But we knew this when purchasing and it’s otherwise an amazing machine.

the main reason The Count desires a large, preferably analog, odometer on the main driving screen is to be able to properly note momentous events, such as the vehicle turning over 100,000 or every time it hits xx420.

Boy I haven't used an odometer for an increment that small since the days I had to print out Mapquest maps to get to my work accounts every day.

Yes to both! Apparently I have a significant number of friends who live in the mountains off of un-signed roads that I could use the navigation app for (do I trust it?) but would rather just use their turn right 1.2 miles past stop sign directions. Drives me batty not having the odometer. Plus my cynical self wants to calculate on my own what percentage it takes to go X number of miles.

<sarcasm> I know Tesla has been totally up front and honest with their range calculations but can I trust Rivian </sarcasm>

For the desired power off button, yes I know (or do I) that the car shuts down when I park and leave but my own psychosis still has me glancing back to see if the doors actually locked, etc

Someone tells you, "go so far past the mailboxes and that is my driveway" or something like that.

80085 miles is the only momentous event anyone needs to capture on the odo.

I have noticed a distinct lack of "Just hit X0,000 miles" posts.

I can see that, but after many many years of driving, you just know.

I don't know how long you've had your vehicle, but every new one takes some time getting used to. I had a "normal" ICE car before my Tesla and it took me a few weeks to get used to the driving dynamics and UI.

Then a year later I moved to the R1S which I've only had for 1 week and I'm still getting used to it. UI is definitely different but I'm not going to form any opinions until I've had a time to acclimate to it.

No, it doesn't and no it won't be, at least with respect to audio. Try listening to a podcast, park your truck, get out and walk away. When you return you will find you've missed a minute or two (that kept playing as you walked off, longer if you have proximity lock off). I've taken to pausing audio by pressing the left steering wheel button as part of my exit routine.

I get that. I guess I just see that as a very specific thing that any manufacturer without analog odometers would also have. My 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro (a dinosaur compared to a Rivian) had a digital odometer but it rounded up to only whole numbers, so in either case I would just have to figure that one out on the fly or get more specific instructions from the person I was visiting. Also, after I visit them once I then know which driveway it is and don't need to be told again.

This is why I always pound in a small spike into the driver’s side front wheel of a new car, so I can count the rotations and get increments of circumference to measure distance with every tick on the pavement.

Thank you, Hank, yes some people are not in Urban Google land. As well I like to do an OD check at the bottom of the steep hill and measure that it takes 15 mile range reduction to drive 4 miles distance! Yes, I live in mountains, it snows, signs are not always there, Google is not accurate in these areas or even available! This is a 4X4 off road vehicle isn't it? There are roads where I live that climb 4,000 ft. in 25 miles distance, if I need snow mode, this could take 100 mile range or some unknown capacity. So I like to check the OD at times.
As to the vehicle turning off the seat cooling, mine does not. And I too look back to see my door locks.
Alexa may be listening to some explicit music behind my back....
