Hey Everyone,

I am kind of disappointed with our brand new R1S. We have been waiting for 2 years for this car, we just took delivery on September 27th, right out of the gate (after we got home) we saw some cosmetic defects. There are a couple of paint chips, blemishes, one of the doors is not flush and the rear passenger side window trim is a wave and starting to come off.

The biggest issue, is starting the next morning, we kept getting turtle mode and service suspension immediately. Talked to support, they had me do resets, the codes went away. After that, they would come back every time we would drive somewhere, literally having to restart our car to drive it.

It has now been in the shop for over a week, they said one of the struts is defected and they are replacing all 4 now. There is no end in sight on when it will be fixed and I am starting to get really disappointed with this experience because I really like Rivian and I love the car outside of what is going on.

Has anyone else had any issues like this with the suspension/struts?

Man im so sorry for you guys. I hate seeing this and this should not happen! Have you considered returning the car? You will lose pre March 2022 pricing if you do that. Otherwise im afraid the only other thing you can do is wait for it. Rivian service does grt it right but they are extremely backed up right now unfortunately.

Very sorry to hear this. My pain threshold is high so I would work with Rivian to get this sorted in a reasonable time. I would also document everything just in-case these issues are not resolved and you have to take a different route. I hope the SC gets everything fixed and you get to enjoy the car. All the best!

No issues on my R1S other than the window trim on one window getting replaced because it was detaching.

Same here. I took delivery of my R1S 9/22 and a week later I had the suspension/turtle ? mode issue. I have an appointment next Tuesday and am definitely frustrated.

I owned a 2015 Tesla Model S and understand the growing pains of a startup car company. Clearly the suspension issue is ubiquitous so perhaps Rivian should get ahead of this issue s00n.

I am sorry you are having issues. My R1T had a few small paint defect and some noise issues. I made a service appointment a few months after delivery. I was hoping they would just touch up the paint defect, but they sent it to the body shop for repairs. The body shop is overwhelmed and taking longer than expected. It’s been about 40 days and hoping to get it back next week. Fortunately they did give me a loaner RIvian.

I’m sorry to hear that. I personally had a whole bunch of cosmetic items (misalignment, panel gaps, headliner sagging, vanity lights not working, to name a few) and they were all addressed at the SC.

I have a co worker who was suppose to take delivery of his R1S tomorrow but upon arrival to the local SC, he was informed his R1S has a major problem regarding the drivetrain. They are still running diagnostics to figure it all out. His vin is in the 22k range. So idk what’s going on.

I'm amazed and disappointed that vehicles with obvious cosmetic defects continue to be delivered to customers. Not to diminish the mechanical flaw the OP's vehicle has.. but the air suspension is a complicated system where everything has to be near perfect in order for it to work correctly, so that stuff happens.

No excuse for the panel gaps, liftgate alignment issues, paint issues, etc.. to continue to plague Rivian vehicles after almost 2yrs of production.

I have started looking into the lemon law in my state, but inside, I really want to make it work so I am hoping that they make it right. If not, in WA, if the car is out of service for 15+ consecutive days it can be considered a lemon. We will see.

Your car has been in the shop for 40 days?? Dang! At least you did get a Rivian loaner, fortunately for us, they did give us a Rivian loaner too, but it's not our car, which is all I want lol

Wow that would be irritating as well. It does blow my mind how these cars can go through QC like this.

For what it's worth, it sucks that you don't have your vehicle, they will make it right. A lot of times delays are waiting for parts to ship to them.

I have had multiple suspension issues, parts are all replaceable. It may not seem like it sometimes but in my experience they will make things right, it just may take longer than you hoped...

Great question haha, ours seems to be working just fine. I will say it does drive a little different at least the feel of it does. It is a Launch Edition.

It was. It turned me off to the point of considering the 7 day return. During the delivery my wrist band key was missing (have an LE R1S), had no first aid kit, the driver side rear passenger window trim was lifting, trunk top was misaligned and rubbing against the bottom, the steering wheel was off and so was the alignment. It was a mess. lol
Still have about 5 or so issues that need to be addressed.
