Driving around today though with the update, there really should be no reason the gauges are not on every vehicle.

In Conserve mode, I have yet to see the rear axle be used.
Conserve mode is 2wd. Hence the conservation. Working as intended.

While I do agree the press release seemed like everyone was getting the new screens, people are acting like since they can't see the gauges, the truck's systems don't take the telemetry into account to keep the vehicle safe. The truck will still monitor battery and motor temperatures, and provide cooling as needed. Almost as soon as the update was released, people were asking what is normal or ok for temperatures for their battery or motors. They didn't know or care about appropriate temperature ranges before, but now that they can see it, its must have information. One reason why this information wasn't available from the start...the truck should take care of it all on its own. I agree off road it would be nice to see if a motor is working harder than the others.

And for my really unpopular opinion, after using the new drive mode screen for a couple days, I like the old drive mode screen more. It was cleaner, and easier to use, much less cluttered. But I also don't want menus in menus to access or change things. I never had a problem with the buttons on the passenger side of the screen (I am tall, so longer arms). Sure, motor and battery temps are "neat", but on the road, they will be fine. I do wish they would put an odometer/trip odometer on the main driver screen.

This is simple product differentiation. Just like every other manufacturer, if you want ALL of the features, buy the more expensive trim of that model. If you choose to buy a less expensive model, then you will have fewer features available.

most other car manufacturers for years have offered multiple trims in each model something along the lines of Base -- Sport -- Luxury to designate the difference. If you want those heated seats, better handling package, Automatic cruise control, then you buy a more expensive model.

I'm not surprised this difference popped up...and won't be surprised when more of these differences do in the future.
You would think they would differentiate BEFORE they sell the vehicle. And if it is going to be done by price why are "old price" vehicles getting any updates? Remember the hissy fits thrown when Rivian was going to raise the vehicle price in 2022? Various "Trims" should be thoroughly disclosed before the purchase. I fully expect everyone will be paying a subscription to receive updates sometime in the future. If you recall it was going to part of various bundles (including dcfc charging on RAN) we could choose from post purchase. If they can't make money on the non-performance dual motor the solution is to raise the price. $6,000 premium for a software switch to performance dual is a bunch. Tells me either performance is WAY over priced or regular version is a loss leader.

Regarding the cost to upgrade to Performance and whether it's overpriced or not, I think of it in terms of halving the MSRP and Upgrade cost. $5k on top of $80k sure fells like just an extra $5k. But if it were $2.5k on top of $40k, all of a sudden it feels reasonable.

All they need is enough people to feel like $5k on top of $80k is as reasonable as $2.5k on top of $40k. It's not about the value of the feature, it's about the value of their money.

This true and why legacy automakers push the higher trim levels. That is where the bulk of the profits come from.

I do hope you Dual Motor people get the gauges, if only because Rivian didn't put disclaimers out there on launch and the poor UI execution showing the swipe...but, it's SO SILLY to get upset about this when you bought the truck WITHOUT these features. That's it.

Rivian will get better at this. Next update will be broken out specifically by which specs get what. More asterisks. More lawyers. Just to keep the pitch forking public from reacting like this...

And I wish you’d quit saying they are different trims, you’re incorrect as pointed out by at least one other. Rivian only has one trim level currently, that’s the Adventure “package”. They used to have a lower trim level, the Explore package (that they dropped to streamline production). The motors, colors, wheels, etc are options within the same ptrim level. You seem to want so badly to feel like you deserve more because you have the quad, and others don’t.
There is precedence for this with ICE vehicles. Different "trim levels" were/are frequently associated with different size engines with larger engine vehicles (i.e. V8) getting gauges, etc. while the "entry" level engines (i.e. I4, V6) get no or fewer gauges. RIvian appears to be differentiating the same way with virtual gauge packages.

I also noticed that Kneel on Park feature is also not working. The ride feel more stiff and lot more noise from outside.
My kneel is still working. I had to reconfigure some stuff.

My understanding was it was a power difference. Not a happy camper.

2 years without gauges = no complaints
2 days with gauges = suddenly we all need them

Personally, I’ll look at them once and that’ll be that. Those with a dual motor, pm me. I’ll sell you mine for cheap

i haven’t read the entire thread but have picked up points from both sides. Wait until they start charging. I’m super happy my truck has improved in 9 months but it was great to begin with. Rivian has supplied the drug with free “taste” and then we will have to try to detox if not willing to pay.

As someone else showed an image of their drive screen, it would be nice to see when the motors become too hot and start limiting regen.

You still get a warning/indication that say Regen is Limited.

Fully agree here. The gauges are a nice party trick and fun to show new passengers. The novelty has already worn off for me and it will for others shortly.

This is the beginnings of options-as-a-service and the divide will only get worse as time goes on. Rivian has a lot of ground to cover with a current net loss of $30k/vehicle. Profits have to come from somewhere. They are easing us in to it, slowly.

If I were a dual standard owner I would raise hell right now. This is not what you signed up for.

It still come down to communication. Rivian's communication skills suck.

Unfortunately, multiple owners (including myself) have spoken with Rivian directly. Their support staff was unaware of the disparity, which is one clue it's a bug. However, they escalated the bug report to their Updates team who responded saying the omission is intended.

After escalating the issue with my guide, he said there is an internal support article where employees are able to comment and provide customer feedback. He said "your concerns are being heard", but also "if it's rolled back, you won't know until an update pops up on your screen, or the Social Media accounts announce a change".

So, it's officially a disparity. Best case, it's rolled back if enough people make a stink. Unfortunately, 99% of current owners do not have the baseline Dual Motor, so the vast minority is in charge of making a really big stink if we want it rolled back.
The omission may be intended for this release only. I can see how they may have run out of time for gauge and graphic differentiation which would work for dual motors so someone made the call to get the update out with the gauge view disabled for dual motors since it affects few Rivians at this time.

Now add differences in communication into the mix:
Customer service asks engineers or developers, “The gauges are missing for dual motors; is this a bug?”
Engineers and developers tend to be very literal so they answered the question asked without elaboration, “This is not a bug. The omission is intended.” without adding for this release but we’re working on implementing for the next release.

Let’s see how it plays out. It may be that dual motor gauges show up in the next release because they are finally ready, they may show up because of customer feedback, or they may not show up.
